To customers who have been experiencing degradation of speed on the Neotel network:

We are aware of the problem and are currently investigating. Analysis and tests are being carried out by our engineers to isolate the problem.

A permanent solution will be implemented once the problem has been successfully identified.

Please be patient while we resolve the issue. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Neotel.

Suggest in the meantime that your support desk get their act together and stop recommending external aerials as a solution !!

Neotel, please keep us updated regarding this, request updates from your technicians daily regarding this problem - otherwise the normal will happen, people will say that you started this thread just to shut us up (for a while) and what not.

As much as we irratate YOU, you should irratate THEM and then report back, daily would be very nice.

Thanks again Neotel.

Please note that the issue has been given the highest priority and that feedback will be provided as results become available.

This thread has been started to keep our valued customers updated on the problem resolution and in no way a means to silence our customers.

Thank you for understanding.

Well its about time.

Please note however we don't just forget about issues, problems.

Keep your CUSTOMERS updated, DAILY.

We have a Contract, but guess what YOU have the same Contract.

WE have to CANCEL an Agreement with YOU, and YOU have to agree to US.

Therefore the same criteria stands for Customers and Suppliers.

If you have changed updated base stations or changed configurations the existing client base and contract cannot be changed.

PRODUCE THE SERVICE PROMISED.

Shouldn't this be sticky for other curious :D customers and for updates.

Hi all,

Unfortunately I do not have an updates yet on the investigation for today. The team is still busy troubleshooting.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

I've had a call today from Charles who asked me about my connection last night. I didn't do any testing last night so I'm not sure if things were different. But I'll be doing testing this weekend to see how things go. Charles told me that things in my area should be resolved and that I must monitor it.

In high hopes of this problem being sorted after speaking to Charles I was sorely disappointed to get this result from speedtest.net:

speedtest result

Other test show similar results...Neotel -1

Edit: It should be noted that for a long time before this problem started (Sunday 1 February 5pm) my avg downlink speeds were 1000kbps-1200kbps and uploadlink at roughly 50kbps with latency of roughly 600-800ms.

Hi all,

I did not mention that Neotel has the vendors top engineers in country troubleshooting, so trust me this is not being taken lightly!

This is mine taken at 10:05pm on Friday the 20th February 2009.

Perhaps I should stay away...

... from Neotel? Vodacom in my area has been worse than before, and I thought - yeah! Great. Good coverage of Neotel. R700 pm for 10GB per month. R8400 per year. But now I am not sure. Say 100 people walk away from Neotel based on this, that's R1 million a year. I know all network providers have their problems, and solve them. Well, I hope so. Will be keeping a watch on this space!

Current (2009/02/21 @ 08:00) speedtest - 7(!)kbps down 278 kbps up

@gdiza
Looks like you speed has returned to normal. Are you on NeoFlex or Prime?

@abraxis
Which area you testing from?

I suggest that when we post we maybe include our area, neotel package and speed - we can then have a baseline for each area for when Neotel gets back to us that the problem is resolved. The following is mine:

Sunninghill, JHB
Neotel Prime
Download Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 35 kbps (4.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Speed decreased, since yesterday

Robindale Radnburg, JHB
Neotel Prime
Download Speed: 198 kbps (19.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1 kbps (0.2 KB/sec transfer rate)

Heh - speed decreased, since this morning

Vorna Valley, Midrand
Neoflex Data
Download Speed: 4 kbps (0.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5 kbps (0.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Good day all,

Please continue providing feedback in the above format - it gives also gives us an indication on whether the solutions that are being implemented are working or not.

Vorna Valley, Midrand
Neoflex Data
Download Speed: 64 kbps (8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 140 kbps (17.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Signal light still hard red - connection intermittant
