Google Phone in SA

A lot of new exciting phones are coming out this year. Why go for this one now that is already old and outdated since it was released more than six months ago overseas?
 
Yeah that phone is old. I've used it, it isn't anything to write home about. Also they're charging too much for it here. It's on par with say an HTC Diamond.
 
I know it isn't much but I'm quite happy with my iPhone,next I'm looking at the Blackberry Bold 9000
 
It's not so much the phone but the packages it's coming with. Another data driven phone with a very limited 100MB of data which mean 3.33MB a day, that's not much and then MTN hit hard when you start paying out of package.

I wonder, does MTN have exclusivity to this phone?
 
what good phones are expected to be relaeased this year with the windows OS?
 
I must say, one of the ugliest phones I have ever seen. Puke.
 
Very disappointing MTN! The HTC Dream is old, and the OS is free. They should be targeting the same pricing level as the Nokia 5800, not the iPhone.
 
Its a really good phone. The only problem is the battery only lasts about a day or so.
 
I'm happy with my Nokia 6234. Heck, i'd by one or two extra if I could (don't knwo where to get them new anymore) for if this one breaks...

At least there is a solution to sync Windows mobile phone contacts with Thunderbird contacts (Birdie Sync)

I can't find a solution with Symbian mobile phones.

This is why I dumped all Symbian mobile phones

Seamlessly syncing address books and/or mail is essential!

This is upsetting to read!

After months of asking Leaf if the HTC Dream would make it to our shores - and their repeated non-committal responses I gave up and got myself an X1 (very happy with it so far).

While I agree it's an "older" phone one can at least be assured that the Android platform will continue it's evolution making the phone useful for at least some time to come.

Well done to MTN for launching the phone locally ;-)

We should all be happy to see yet another phone platform on the market - it spurs on all phone vendors to keep improving their platforms and offer us as consumers more variety.

What would have been the clincher for me is if MTN took the same approach as some of the European operators and offered an unlimited data plan with it - similar to what one can get on the Blackberrys.
 
R529 bucks a month for something that runs free software. Well done MTN, major ripoff FTW...
 
If I'm not mistaken, Android is OPEN SOURCE as in... free to copy, use, develop.

So in that case, the phone should not cost anywhere near as much as... a Windows Mobile phone, correct?

R350/month airtime
R80/100MB

So R99/month x 24 months.
R2400 for the phone.

Their HTC Touch Diamond goes for R529/month but only includes R350/month airtime.
So the Diamond effectively costs R4300.

What sucks, is that you can get the 5800 XpressMusic for just R350 with R350's airtime.
So for R2400 less (than the HTC Dream), you can get the XpressMusic.
