SEACOM’s effect will take time

in other words, they will all use the bandwidth purchased at a lower price, reselling it at current rates, hence profiteering off massive markups. yup, sounds just like telkom modus operandum... par for the course for SA - Rip off clients as we have no other alternative. Way to go - maximise profits and screw us.

So basically what they are saying there will be no price decreases when the cable lands.

OK, so if prices are not going to drop (or caps increased substantially) what is the whole point of seacom then?

Ah the Seacom Stories resurface, Washed out rerun and Boring already....

If the prices dont come down initially, then the caps better increase soon.We have to lobby to parliament or take some sort of action, because im tired of being ripped off every month 4 2 gigs!Just loading a webpage nowadays uses more cap then ever before.Just they dare spin this nonsence so close to seacom going live, and do nothing. Also still waiting for that big announcement vodacom promised us a month ago.

What do you expect from SA companies - they had Telkom as a teacher so can you really blame them. They have all been waiting to also get their pound of flesh. However on a more serious note, the international bandwidth is not the only component. We forget about the local access charges as well.
Anyone recently applied for a diginet line. Make your eyes water. One can only hope that once the other players new fibre links come online prices will start falling. I think we would probably find that international caps will be increased or prices will not increase in the near future. Then again this is SA so anything is possible here and lots of cronies still need to get their share from the telecoms pie.

This means that current SAT3/SAFE clients will initially only use SEACOM for cheaper additional capacity.

That's the clue there... more capacity for the same price.

I will be happy if that is the case.... although cheaper prices by year end would be nice.
