Vodacom launches data promotion where broadband subscribers get between 25 MB and 2 GB free data

The additional free data allocated will be the greater of 25MB or 10% of the Data Bundle purchased or subscribed to,” Vodacom said.
So how would anyone get 2GB free?
Vodacom doesn't have a 20GB bundle do they?

lol... not really a life changer, I have a 250MB bundle included on my iPhone contract, but I'm guessing that doesn't count.... *bends over and poops another R600 into the Vodacom bucket labelled "May"*

Aaaah .... NICE ... I have some good news, the data bundle thing is not just for extra data bundles, so if you have a contract (like my iPhone contract) with data bundle included it also qualifies. Here's my current statement from the vodacom4me site:

June 275.00 MB 0.38 MB 274.62 MB
May 250.00 MB 250.00 MB 0.00 MB

I think those would be companies that have 3G routers that mostly operate at their clients' premises, like my gf is a chartered accountant, and they are at clients' premises 90% of the time. They always get a 3G router to take with, and 4 - 5 of them access internet through it...

Now, what would REALLY be useful, would be the ability to trade in minutes for data (or vice versa?)...I always have about 300 minutes left and then I have to pay huge amounts over and above my contract rate for extra data used.

Its like asking the Eskimo's to trade some of that whale blubber they love for some of your ice you've been collecting in your freezer.

Hey ... this is probably the start of it. Literally a 10% (thereabouts mathematically) discount on data, but instead of reducing the price, they increase the bundle cap at the same price. I'm sure the promotion will become the norm.

OK, so what happens if I add more than one 5MB bundle ('cause now you get 30MB per bundle min.)...and the data rolls over, so can I buy a bunch of 5MB bundles and have loads of data to use in the next few months?

Crappy analogy.
As long as the ice and the whale blubber each have a fixed price I don't see what the problem is? It's just a conversion, no one get's screwed but their service is improved. Why do I have to pay such a huge amount extra per month for data rates when I barely use their network for phone calls. Plus, my extra minutes are starting to expire, and it's THEIR fault since their contract options for the phone I wanted sucked when it came out.

I smell the distinct rosy aroma of SEACOM on this.

10% free data .... I hope it's not Seacom because that's just pathetic. If (huge if) it becomes 50% then I'll say it's Seacom having influence.

Well, Vodacom hand-out off-peak minutes like they're practicaly free, or charge very little for. Data on the otherhand, they charge you an arm and a leg for.

The Eskimo's don't want more ice.

But ok, It would be great if they'd swop out some nice data for crappy minutes.

haha...yeah dude, it's pathetic to live in a country where a 10% data increase on our already stupendously over priced data bundles is suppose to "brighten" our day... We need REAL change, not this petty-cash pissing contest. I'm sick and tired of trying to be positive and to see the upside of the situation, and yet when you say something negative there's always someone bashing you with the it-could-have-been-worse-it'll-change-soon bat... the fact is I'm a developer in a screwed up economic climate trying to fight my way into the "expert" gap, yet I don't even have internet at home (ki$$ my ass service providers) and I'm falling behind every single day. At this rate I might as well go and work on an ostrich farm...

On the upside: They just saved me an extra R50 this month, so err... yeah I'll just thank KFC in turn when I go pick up my burger and fries tonight. So that I can eat my mind into submission once more...

Will you get 25MB free with every 5MB bundle you purchase? 30.83cents per MB not bad

Agh man!
Why do people whine about everything, good things and bad?

Its a step in the right direction in my opinion, if the uptake is good, who knows... maybe bigger bundled freebies!!
