Ok guys... I thought this would bring back future repercussions..
I know this is a long post but I would appreciate your time.
As we all know, ZAPortal aka Zaine Lourens aka James Rourke was a fraudster, and provided fraudeulent account details to Afrihost..
As you can see above, I "won" an account from this guy and I thought all was in order, until we
discovered he was a fraudster. I stopped using the account immediately.
Today I tried to sign up for the 5GB Afrihost package. All was well, they received my payment, I faxed a copy of my ID to verify my account, and was awaiting my account details. I waited 30mins as it said on the email, however the details never came through.
After calling through, they changed my email address from the created afrihost.com email address to my personal email address, and I received the account details instantly.
Whatever I did, I could not get these details to work... I use multiple ISP's and am not a noob so I know how to connect to an ADSL account. This was not working.. Gave me a username/password error.
Called helpdesk, tried changing my password to no avail.. Gave it more time as the afrihost representative told me maybe it needed more time to authenticate automatically by the system. Another hour passed, and I gave AfriHost another call.
They explained that they wanted a copy of my Telkom Invoice to prove my account details or something or rather. When I asked them why, I was simply told because "the CEO requested them". I was not happy with this and demanded some sort of explanation. The representative felt that his explanation was valid enough and would not elaborate any further. I then asked to speak to the manager.
The manager explained that my line was linked to another account holder with "hacked" accounts under the name RUKA or something or other. At this point I was very confused, and thought my credit card details had been compromised by Afrihost or their site, or somewhere else along the line. The attitude of the afrihost representatives and overall headache this had caused me propelled me to request my money back as it was just not worth it.
It was only until now that I remembered this whole scandal and that the account I "won" was an Afrihost account... Obviously my line ID has been linked to this fraudulent account of "James Rourke" (not RUKA as I previously thought), and this is where the problem lies...
So what to do now? I am still not comfortable with giving Afrihost my telkom details as, as far as I am concerned, they have no right to this information.
