Broadband pricing comparison: Cost/Mbps/GB

Interesting but this table really would make more sense if it mentioned which specific package from which provider was used for the calculation.
There are for instance multiple differing ADSL prices at the same speed.
 
Enought already.... we know... ADSL in this country is S-H-I-T.... damnit.... MyBB staff keep regurgitating the same stuff over and over again.... if it's not how crap Telkom is, or ISP and their products, or how Seacom isnt the wow we all expected...

Find something new to write about!



We're experiencing the full brunt of the recession, how about you guys write something positive and uplifting? - maybe not about this country even?

Uncapped products are also per GB products. you are limited in your use per GB by the available speed of the line. like broadband should be.

You want to hear something positive?

Well, if having broadband internet access, albeit at slightly slower speeds and a little more expensive than you would like, is the worst of your problems then you actually have nothing at all to complain about. I could now go on and list the problems that some other people out there have that would make your complaints seem pathetic but I'm sure you know a whole lot yourself if you thought about it.

A second suggestion would be to just not read any articles relating to broadband. As stated by you, you already know what they are going to say, so just avoid the negativity ;)

Even so, then why is Neotel's 10GB product listed and not the 15GB. Besides, I don't see how one can possibly put a value on transfer speed... speed means nothing if you don't have the bandwidth. Eg. Imagine a 12Mbps Telkom line on a 3GB cap... here today... gone tomorrow.

I assume they took the average across all offerings

Well then you missed the point of this comparison.

It's to show the cost of ADSL in this country per mbps. Not a "showdown between ISP's and how much they charge"
 
Interesting article - thanks Staff Writer.

The data provided in the Table sure makes for an interesting read...

A few things that need clarifying:
- Do the ADSL packages include the compulsory monthly (voice) line rental as well?
- Do all the packages take into account device and hardware costs?
- Are these costs amortised over a 24 month contract?

It would make sense that the answer to all of the above questions should be YES, so that the real value of the package can be established.

That's just crazy. How can you still justify using dial-up? How can it be cheaper?

If you already have a Telkom Line, which you already do since you are using dial-up, then for an additional R181 per month, you can get an entry level ADSL package as follows:

- Line speed: 384 kbps (R152 per month)
- 1 GB data, from Afrihost (need more? its only R29 per GB, but sign up soon, its on special)

You will need to purchase an ADSL modem though. Prices start from about R300 to R400, and go up to about R1500, depending on if you want WiFi as well, and other features.

Let us know if you need help switching from dial-up to ADSL, or any other broadband technology. Most people on myBB will help you out, and advise you!

Dial-up is DEAD!
 
I love how the packages on Vodacom actually get more expensive the bigger the package is. 3GB is R1 more than 2GB, 5GB R1 more than 3GB and so on and so forth.
 
Whats up with MyBroadband news lately?

If its not articles about cost comparisions its NEOTEL adverts disguised as articles.
Jeez its time for some fresh blood there, true journalists that know hot to find and even write articles.

These "staff reporters" are getting rather lame now.
