Hi folks

There were some requests that MyADSL should hand out a few awards at the end of the year. Are you in favour of giving recognition to companies/individuals in the IT arena? I think MyADSL will be a typical ‘peoples award’ or ‘users award’. Most of the other awards are adjudicated by industry experts (like IT Journalist of the year etc.), so maybe an award voted for by the broadband community may be of value.

We have thought of three categories, but it is certainly not set in stone:

IT Journalist of the year
Broadband provider of the year
ISP of the year

Can you please give your views on this issue?

Definitely seems like a good idea to me. Maybe we should have an award for the best company representative on the forum too, a lot of them here help people out a lot.
 
Nice idea - I'm thinking that people nominating candidates for the Journalist of the Year should also submit the article that they feel best represents that particular journalist - sort of like a Pulitzer :)
 
Good idea too, it'd give people something specific to compare the journalists on too. :)
 
I think its a good idea. then again I suggested it ;) lol

I still suggest having a Most Innovative ISP and Most Customer Centric ISP. Yes the categories that you have listed above are solid but for me, MyADSL stands for the overall advancement of the ADSL experience. The categories should make people aware of who the top guys in the vital areas that affect us, the users. So yes....have the main categories like any awards, but have the smaller ones that reflect the hard work and dedication of the "little" guys.

yup, would be good, incl some others too tho. best support, cheapest provider/ISP etc. This could be a good thing as myadsl is where most users end up coming to look for answers. One thing i've always wondered about was why myadsl never had a page with every listed ISP and provider with cost breakdowns on it so that you could on a single page choose what you want and see the total cost etc.

If these awards are like images ISP's can attach to their site it would mean myadsl would become a recommendation place too, as should perhaps and thus maybe the companies would try harder to please end users. In the end it would mean myadsl is achieving its objective somewhat.
 
I think we also need to recognize bad service, products etc.

Sentechs recent behavior deserves a myadsl w**ker award

We can indeed add a MyADSL Loser of the Year award or something like it...
 
I think it's a great idea! I also like the idea of making a little image award or something like that.
 
There should deffinately be some sort of onion award for company and person that did the stupidest thing.

Can call it the Paris Award - Inscription at the bottom - "MNP will work on 10 Nov or I will resign."

...maybe a cast for a broken leg with "Plaster of Paris Award for Crippling of Local Communications" written on in black felt-tip
 
Good idea.
1.Best journalist

2.Best performer (criteria being the 'company' that made the most significant strides forward in providing cost effective telecoms to the people)

3.The 'MyADSL Moegoe of the year' award (or similarly named) is a must. There are so many stupid comments from key people in the industry,some just blatant lies and these need to be acknowledged in some way or another.
Perhaps a monthly contest with a grand finale at year end.
 
Awsome ideas! Me thinks it should become a Highlight on the MyADSL calendar, and for some it will be the low light :)
