Best FREE internet Security

Try these, not sure about Vista compatibility though, but i've found these tools pretty cool [all free]. You'll find a Firewall,Avirus,Antispam and a few other stuff there..all free. The firewall got very good ratings on the notorious "leak test" site [where firewalls like norton failed miserably]

PS: Firewall ranking [in terms of actual protection] site: Very interesting

AVG didn't do very well there either....

depends what you are looking to protect - if its just Av then clamav. For firewall/antispam/antiphishing/antivirus i'd go with zonelabs

Piesang,

Your best bet for a free solution would be the following.

AVG FREE Edition - Excellent free version of the program. Features automatic updates and real time protection to ensure you are always protected.

ZoneAlarm - Great free Firewall, probably the best out there.

Ad-Aware SE - Very good antispyware product. It features super fast scanning, though some features such as real time protection lacks.

If you've got those 3 applications installed, you have a good Internet Security solution. However, if you're willing to spend just a few bucks or so (about R350), you could buy yourself an excellent product.

My two favorites are ESET's Nod32 and Bitdefender. I've used both, and find them excellent. They provide complete protection against viruses, spyware, spam, hackers and more.

It's up to you though. My recommendation would be to buy one of them, though the free programs listed are probably your best bet. ;)

Just had a look at Matousec, what a surprise! Really thought Bitdefender would score a bit better.
Ironically I decided to download the test software and try it for myself. Downloaded the archive and guess what, my Bitdefender would not allow the file to download due to potential viruses and trojans.
What is this, check or checkmate?!?

bitdefender, wouldn't stop an attack, AVG free version maybe, Norton never, that leave Nod32.... WHICH is KING!!! since moving over not 1 attack; virus; addware outbreak clean..... so the rest is history.

I dont know much about this, but I never had any problems with Avast. I just have that, and windows firewall. The firewall I will try, but I'm happy with avast. There were 2 times when avast warned me about a trojan horse, but then I stopped the connection immediately.
