The megapixel race

For the most part it's a bunch of crap. Image quality is more dependent on the CMOS sensor, whether or not an optical zoom is available, and a few other factors.

If it were dependent on megapixels alone, most cellphones would have replaced dedicated lower-to-midrange cameras by now.

Good lens.
Good quality chip with a good dynamic range.
I'm waiting for a digital with better dynamic range.

:D sweet, I just bought a 10 megapixel camera

You're a Sony fanboy, marketing propaganda obviously appeals to you. Generally happens to people who are less technically inclined, don't worry it's no fault of your own ;)

Hey Guys

What are your thoughts on the more the megapixels that better the
photo
It depends. If you look at the way pogue conducted the followup test you'll understand just why more can be better.

I recently purchased a samsung nv10 to replace my damaged sony cybershot. Cost me R2350-00 and it's a 10MP digital camera as opposed to the 4.1MP sony it's replacing. Got to say the sony was better.

I'm not sure what the point of mega pixels are but I do know that they increase the size of image, however what's the point exactly seeing as one is lightly to view the image on either a monitor or have the image printed to post card or simliar size? More mega pixels doesn't mean more clarity. In fact if the clarity of the 10megapixel pic isn't good it will be exposed by the size...

The more pixels you try to squeze into that little area, the more difficult it gets. You start getting pixels aberrations, highlight clipping problems, decreased light sensitivity and of course, less dynamic range. That being said, they are making major advancements in this field.

Try tell 56kMan that the 4 megapixel photo of this model looks bad. This photo was shot on film and then downresed to 4mp.

So if you start off with a good cam...

Hi

What do you mean shot on film.Sorry if I am dumb+

Hey 56K man Does that beauty belong to you ?

DD
Shot on film means that instead of using a digital camera the picture was taken with a film camera.

It was shot on a film camera. Not a digital.
Celluloid. Not a chip.
What I mean is that the original was very good. Garbage in. Garbage out.

lol - The photo is from Artbeats.com.

i think the greater the megapixels the better the photograph. I just have to compare 4Mp shots to 10Mp's shots.

yes the technology behind the camera helps. A crap lense with huge Mp number is like a porsche engine in a VW beetle.

but for the average person who really just takes happy snappies a 10Mp camera is short of ridiculous. like an 80year old driving a porsche.

Ceteris paribus the more megapixels the merrier. :)

Mega pixels only depend on the size of the pic and how far you can zoom into the pic, resolution is important.

Lens also but going iton mobiles, a good lens coupled with crap technology doesnt help much ie Nokio and the CZ lenses.
