Neotel: End-to-end SAT3 circuits within the month

I agree, this is really good news, but... by when will we see a price drop then??

Excellent news! I am pretty sure their wholesale customers will see the price drops asap.

After the Boks win this weekend this week is just getting better and better :)

THE END OF A TYRANT!!! HOORAA!!! :D :) :D :) :D :)

Indeed this is good new's BUT Neotel is infamous for the phrase "end-of-the-month" otherwise, what about pricing and services? :D

It is Government policy that the cost of access to international connectivity is affordable and that all arrangements regarding access or use of international cables and/or facilities do not unfairly exclude others from use of or access to the cables,” the minister said.

...As long as Ivy gets her share of the doughnuts.

Mere weeks ago it was Ivy that turned around to Seacom and said (or what amounts to), no thanks we need BEE not cheap bandwitdh? Sudden change of heart or maybe cash?

great news, now when do we as consumers get to see some action?

For interests sake, what do those in the know think the price can realistically drop too?

Taking into account how much capacity sat3 has, how low could the price go?

For instance, if the price dropped to R2 the surge would overshoot capacity.

Any thoughts?

This is really great news, however, with NeoTel's current track record, I can't help feel that, "within a month" will end up being "withing 6 months", possibly even longer

True, you have a point there, they are already delying in other sectors of there business

Well, it did state in the article that its now up to ICASA to put in the framework and policies for this link, so that could be where the hang up is. We all know how understaffed and underfunded ICASA is...

A limitation which we hope will be resolved by Icasa in its policy is that currently Telkom is only giving us access to its connection to the cable, not the cable itself. The “wet” portion, the cable actually under the sea, is still controlled by the SAT3 consortium, which is effectively run by Telkom.”

Wasn't this one of the restrictions that ended either in April or October when the contracts ended?

If the prices do drop, then Teklom will not be able to hide their high costs behind their "International Bandwidth is expensive" excuse anymore

This will leave them high and dry with a lot of egg on their "face".

Somehow, I don't think a price drop is reality.

Prices won't drop by that much. Remember Neotel said they'd be competing on service levels, not price.

Heck I don't mind paying R300 for 384k w/ a resonable cap! I am paying R300 for 64k uncapped but shaped!!
