No iPhone for SA

R5000?

I think you are being optimistic... my guess would be closer to R8000

Sad. The people who think the phone is slow, must know that it takes one factory upgrade to enable HSDPA etc...

Well that just sucks. I guess it leaves an open market for the GooPhone to take advantage of though ;)
one day when there is a google phone - for now all they have is an OS - Android.

I'm confused now

You guys know that the phone is not in production no more right ?

This whole thing started with AT&T having sole right to the Iphone. Apple then went back on the whole deal by saying they won't void the warrantee if the phone was hacked to be open to any network. AT&T then wanted out of the agreement and their money back. Apple then played safe and stoped production of the phone all together.

Or am I missing something ?

What are they supplying France, Germany, and UK with then?

Where did you hear this info from?

Trying to find to article I read which a lawyer of AT&T and Apple where making coments as to what is going on. Closest i could find now was this

http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/?p=1192

I'll search a bit more
You're forgetting that it's in Apples best interest to stop people from unlocking the phone. That's why they released the 1.1.1 update that bricked a few phones.

Found the court doc's (Case file)

http://rixstep.com/1/20071011,00.shtml

Still searching though... I might be completely wrong. Might have just miss read the whole thing. Wish I could get it again.

Edit: The above case is what sparked this whole issue.
Now AT&T is also starting a case against Apple.

That if I read the article correctly, was what sparked the halt in production.

Dissapointing, but not really unexpected.

Apple is not selling just another mobile phone, they are selling the iPhone experience. So don't expect the iPhone to be sold in any market where Apple does not have a direct presence and control over the experience.

Core is nowhere close to being able to provide an Apple experience and the rumours are that they are struggling financially hence the problems with stock levels etc. It would certainly explain the suicidal pricing on iPods.

Also I'm constantly amused by those poor people so badly infected with windowsitis that they think if its not done the windows way its doesn't work. People so used to doing things the long way round that getting it done simply is counter intuitive.

I don't know why people want an iPhone anyway. Apple's treatment of it's iPhone customers is pathetic.

Do you know that if you open the box and your iPhone is defective it will not be replaced? They send it away to Apple for repairs.

I'm glad they can't get an exclusive distribution deal in S.A. Apple needs a lesson in humility, or maybe just Steve Jobs.

Whatever, Apple blows.

Apple swaps out the phone immediately if you deal with them - especially if it is defective out of the box. ATT might be another matter but thats not Apple is it?

ROFL Yes - that will teach them - Apple must be kicking themselves
