1.2 Tbps wireless

the Italian scientists used a technology called free-space optical communications, which transmits data using light.

a clever way of saying "sending morse code using a flash lite"

In my opinion its not wireless if its not using waves. Thats just fibre without the tube.

Your point is blunt. Visible light forms part of the full spectrum of "waves"
It starts with infa-red on the one end of the spectrum and ends with microware ( i think ) on the other end of the spectrum

If a bird flies through the light the transmission is broken.
there are a number of ways to overcome this as well as mist, rain etc all of which can affect transmission

if you know where to look in JHB, Durban and Cape Town you will find mirrors being used to carry "laser optics" in a "NLOS" manner

I hope they do it quickly so that people like me that can't get internet can get internet!!!

If I'm not mistaken Cell C have already been using line of sight laser technology to link up their base stations for a few years now.

Richards bay Municipality have been using this type of technology for years (Since before 2000) now over relatively short distances and certainly not at those speeds but nevertheless.

Not Practical, requires 100% perfect conditions 24/7

City of Cape Town has also been using light or should I rather say infra red to transmit data, was so unreliable we stopped using it.

erm infra red haven't got a long range btw. At work running a laser link between buildings about 200 to 400 meters apart and it works like a charm. I wouldn't mind having one of these units for private use.

We used to have a laser link between gardens and cape town CBD in 2004

Went to the toilet with the weather... and had to hide it when the telkom guys came around....

thick mist seems to screw it up.i still say up the power and burn a hole in it.
