Post as much about the subject as you like. Refer to as many articles as you want to ....

There have been lots of other Windows 10 threads already, this is the current one under discussion.
I'll be using this one to post in.
Some users reading this thread who have not yet decided to install Windows 10 may require some info on why it is a good idea not to upgrade.

Reasons to upgrade.

It's faster if you don't run a potato.
Future support in the games department.
Backward compatible with previous software.
UI is better tbh.
More secure as far vulnerabilities go.
Future support in the software department.
Safe enough for a downs to use yet scalable for a power user.

Beyond the supposed security concerns and advertising stuff (some of which is justified and some of which is just pure bollocks), there are not really any reasons not to upgrade unless you rely on a previous version of Windows to run a specific piece of software.

And anyone who thinks other OS's aren't going to start having similar security concerns, at the least, is completely and utterly deluded.

Now that the original purpose for the thread has been completely derailed, there is only one reason NOT to upgrade, and that is the one highlighted.

In fact as support slips for the older OS systems, the security concerns with those versions become more of a problem. ....

My laptop and media player will remain on 7 but my games PC is being upgraded for DirectX 12. Seems foolish not to on a games PC.

7 is supported until 2020.

Windows 7 gets security updates till 2020.

Windows 8 is still in mainstream till 2018 and security updates till 2023

Windows 10 till 2020 and security updates till 2025

Microsoft really seems to have raised the bar for a pc not to be a potato.
More and more games are moving to Linux. Not surprising as most pc games nowadays are just ports.
Backwards compatibility should be a given and not a feature. Sadly MS breaks software with every windows release.
Not better than w7 which is worse than XP. Most of the changes to the UI are actually changes people asked to undo since the changes in w8.
Every new platform introduces new vulnerabilities. It's just that they haven't been discovered yet.
Don't know what the point of this is. It's mostly a case of rewriting software to work correctly with it.
Yet plenty have found power user to be a requirement.
Apparently not a selling point and a hassle for most.

As usual you are trying to pick a fight about something you know NOTHING about! Not that is any of your business, but IF you have been following my posts about windows 10, you would know why I ended up coming from Windows XP direct to WIN 10. And I have not berated anybody, either, especially for upgrading to WIN 10. I leave that for you and your cohorts to do!!

In my case, I worked for an organisation that had a BYOD policy, who took a perfectly good new Win 7 PC and laptop, imaged them and then loaded windows XP. When I left, they claimed to have re-imaged the machines back to what I had before, but what happened is I ended up with an upgraded win 7 machine running WIN 10!

Hence why I came from Windows XP, straight to win 10

Do you understand now, or do you want me to provide a full log of how this was done?? You are really becoming a PIA.

That's the whole idea of Windows. You can configure it the way you like and do anything with it. No other platform comes close.

Mint / KDE is pretty customisable...more so than windows I'd say. Sorry if that's off-topic, but your statement "no other platform comes close" isn't quite correct on this score.

The game situation improved a lot lately on Linux just look at the graph climbing on https://steamdb.info/linux/. With Vulkan on the horizon and even Android Nougat supporting it we're MUCH better off then a few years ago. AMD also got their stuff together and they now only have one Linux driver with the closed source Pro version comming out later this year. Overall, the AMDGPU PRO driver stack was certainly competitive with the Radeon Software driver on Windows 10.
