Hi Folks,

Does anybody know of any good deals on 10" tablets running Android 5 or greater?

I have found a 10" Telefunken at game for R999, but the display is awful, and the rest of the cheap options I have found run Android 4.4...

Any help would be appreciated :)

I wouldn't touch those cheap droid tablets even if you gave them to me.
I'm also looking for a budget tablet but they are all droid 5 and below and have terrible specs.

Get a Mobicell 10" Tab for R1999. I got mine through Cell C 2 years ago at R149 per month which included 1GB data per month. Pretty decent for entry level tabs.

I have a Samsung 10.1 A T580 tab. It's only €180 here, it is fast and the battery life is unbelievable it is so good (usually 2 weeks of standby with 6-8 hours of screen on time) . I would highly recommend it

Vodacom has a one, Android 6 if I'm not mistaken. Power Tab 10. Bought it for my daughter, she uses her Telkom SIM in it. Very good tablet. Think I bought it for R1400.

Only see it available here for Merkado, and it's 10k

Take a look at the Vodacom Power Tab 10 (Lollipop). This is apparently a rebranded Alcatel Pixi 3(10). The 1280X800 screen is much better than on the cheaper devices. You should be able to purchase a new one at a good discount (~R1000) on OLX etc. It does have OTG support but no Miracast from what I can see.

Thanks... This seems to be about the only option worth looking at. Available for R1799 - http://now.vodacom.co.za/article/2015/10/05/vodacom-power-tab-10

@mister: Try to test that tablet first before purchasing it as some of the reviews seem quite negative. It appears to use an Intel SoFIA processor (not ARM processor) which may have problems running some android software. I did a comparison between the PT10 and a more expensive Lenovo 10" tablet at Incredible Connection by simultaneously playing a few YouTube music videos at 720p while carefully comparing the two displays. After the tests I didn't think that the slightly better picture quality of the Lenovo was worth the extra money.

Pick 'n Pay currently has a 50th Birthday promotion where they are giving R150 shopping vouchers with purchases of cell phones and tablets. It might be worth visiting one of their branches before August to compare some of the different devices. I recently bought a 7" Vodacom Smart Tab 2 there for ~R750 with the voucher on a similar promotion. Some of their branches may also sell the PT10. Several months ago I bought two brand new sealed PT10s on OLX for ~R1000 each (different sellers).

Loot has these Universal 10" tablet cases which are much better quality than the cheap ones from China Mall etc. - you might still be able to get free shipping if you purchase using the android app with the FREED coupon code. I bought the PT10 screen protectors from Dion Wired for ~R60 but they should also be available from one of the China Malls etc.

What's the P10?

@mister: Vodafone has just launched an updated version of the Power Tab 10 (PT10) called the Smart Tab N8. It is based on the quad core MediaTek MTK8735B, includes 2GB Ram and 16GB internal storage, supports Cat 4 LTE and runs Nougat. It appears to use the same 1280X800 IPS screen as the PT10.

I'm not sure whether it is going to be available locally but Vodacom usually announce their new models in August. Vodafone also sell a 10" full HD tablet based on the Snapdragon 430 called the Tab Prime 7 which I have not seen locally.

I have also sent you details about a special offer on a different 10" tablet via PM.

Unfortunately, these are outside your budget.
Samsung Tab A 10.1 (2016) runs 6.0.1
Wifi only version was on the specials list recently for under R4k at Makro.
LTE version is between R5k and R6k
Both of these have the s-pen but are not note devices.

You could also look at the Samsung Tab E 9.6, which is in your budget, but have no idea what the os version is.

Thx, I'll keep my eye out for specials on the Samsung Tab A 10.1

The Tab E 9.6 is Android 4.4 from what I can find.

This looks quite decent. Hope the price will also remain decent when they arrive in SA
