Wait till you try the f/1.4.iDenTiTy, have a look at Game. 450D twin kit lenses for less than R7,000.
I spent some time with my 50mm f/1.8 last night. You're right, what a great experience! Really allows you to focus (no pun intended) on aperture/shutter speed/DoF without the distraction of zooming (it distracts me in any event).
Wait till you try the f/1.4.
Ah, and so the Lens Lust begins.
Wouldn't mind a shorter prime either, 30mm perhaps. I feel like a kid in a candy store at the moment. iDenTiTy

Well, since ~ R5500 is my limit.. I think I will go for the Nikon without the VR. The remainder can be spent on an SD card.
