10mb -> 20mb, upgrade procedure ?

Same here, no VDSL sync at all and ADSL2+ disconnects on the Pace. I'm going back to 10mb, i had very good speeds and no problems.

Use a Netgear modem. VDSL didnt want to sync and the PACE made my ADSL2+ 20Mb drop every few minutes. Used my previous netgear and it goes for weeks without a disconnect.

Upgrading to VDSL has been the most frustrating experience. I don't know why Telkom can't get it together. Line has been down for 3 days (order 'in process') and nobody (NOBODY) knows what is going on.

My advice to those trying in these new areas (eg Sea Point) - rather wait a few months until they've solved the teething problems have been solved. Others on the forums also complaining in my area about losing their connections (for up to two weeks).

I suspect user TelkomZA is inundated with such complaints as he/she's unresponsive now.

Thats exactly what i planned to do, I am taking the PACE back today and getting the Netgear router. Pace is useless to me right now. A telkom tech called me yesterday to tell me that the stats on Netgear will be better, even better than my Dlink.

Thanks to TelkomZA (and possibly some other unseen forces) my line is back up and at 20 mbit (ADSL2+). What a relief. It appears Telkom is serious about sorting out their service.

Do you know how far from the exchange you are by any chance?

Do you need to do any verification with this upgrade or just continue as is?

I don't get how some guys get to go to 20Mbps adsl, but when I ask for it, I get the excuse "The line is too long." Really upsets me :(

Google Maps says 1.5km walking :)

According to google maps i am 1,6km away, i remember a while ago Telkomza said i was 1.97km away.
My modem must be making things bad at the moment, have the telkom dlink. attainable rate is 18mb, synced at 16mb

What distance does one need to be from the exchange to be able to obtain 20 or 40 mbps?
I see that the box itself has been upgraded but according to the telkom DSL check website my max is still 10 mbps

I followed up with Talkom last week and they said I won't be able to get any speed above 10mb, doesn;t matter what their website says.

Monday my modem stopped syncing so I plugged in the VDSL modem that I bought and...

Bolded the SNR, that's going to be a problem. It's highly likely you're going to have issues with such a low SNR.

So I have a Netgear DGN2200, that I suspect got hit by lightning. (Thats the 4th router thats been hit :( Darn JHB summer thunder storms). It still worked fine, besides 2x ethernet ports being bust.

After replacing it yesterday with the same model DGN2200, the SNR increased from 11.9db to 15.4db (downstream) and Attenuation decreased from 19.0db to 15.5db (14.5db if I plug it in the next room - i.e. not using the telephone extension cord of about 20m)

Upstream didn't change much with the new (lightning undamaged) router.

Interestingly enough, My spare Dlink router says it has an attainable rate of 26776 kbps on ADSL2+. I wonder If TelkomZA would help me upgrade from 10Mbps to 20Mbps if this new router now finally allows it. I'm quite keen, and quite surprised that lightning can ruin your SNL / Attenuation.

EDIT: After checking freemaptools / Google maps, I'm 495m from the exchange if I follow the telephone line to the road, and then the road distance.)

I was wondering if someone can assist. Here are my stats when I log into my router.

I have a 10mb line and when i do speed check on Telkom website, they say may line speed is
10mb, however in modem stats it shows max attainable is 20mb+.We have one of these bad boys approx 500m from our house
Telkom-MSAN-installation.jpg

When i contact telkom they also say the exchange is only capable of 10mb and that I won't be able to upgrade to 20mb. My router and the MSAN close to our house make me think they wrong?

Is it possible they installed the MSAN and didnt update it on their side? (The MSAN has been there for a few months now)

Not if I look at your attenuation. @ 20dB it is more than 500m I reckon. The router only shows your attainable rate that is calculates from your line stats. It does not mean that your dslam supports it. You need to be on a newish dslam or IMAX served with metro ethernet to be able to get 20Mbps adsl2+ or I believe a MSAN to get 20 and 40Mbps VDSL.
