10mb -> 20mb, upgrade procedure ?

Even a 10mb uncapped account would benefit, I'm waiting till the end of the month for my 10 meg uncapped account expires and it can give me 1.25MB/s download speeds on my 20mb line as opposed to 840KB/s when I had a 10mb line. So if you can pull off 15mb then R 100 for 410KB/s more ?

This is assume you use 10mb uncapped but yeah, if you do, its worth it.

So else then getting the line upgraded, presume I need to get a vdsl modem? Where and what options are best?

Not if you're going on to ADSL2+ profile and you have an ADSL2+ modem router. But if you're moving to VDSL profile then yes. I use the Zyxel VMG1312-B Series VDSL router for my second line and it's a very capable device. Has a good looking interface and good features, but it's clunky to work with in the admin settings imo. Takes some getting used to and is a little slow for my liking. And be careful of flashing the latest firmware. They're easy to brick - even with their official firmware upgrades.

How's the zyxel when it comes to line stats, everything gets worse if I plug in my pace, attenuation increases 3 points, snr drops like 5, random reboot's. I'm going to return for warranty swap and hope I had a dud because damn its poor. It gets praise from other people in forums though.

I'm on ADSL2+ though so it was a waste anyways.

I've got two identical lines here. Marginally worse than the second identical line on a TP Link, but that really could just be environmental. It's solid though in my testing. WiFi is iffy though. Struggling to get above 100Mbps connection on clean channels but again this could also just be the nature of some cards and routers not liking each other that much. The WiFi isn't an issue though as these are test lines and they're all wired.

In order to use the adsl 2+ profile do I just specify this when doing the order or is there anything else I need to do. Do have an dsl 2/2+ router.

Telkom will deny adsl2+ profile exists, you could give TelkomZA a pm, he's very helpful.

I upgraded my line a couple of days ago, telkom, afrihost, everyone says you need a VDSL modem, now reading the forums before hand, i know that i didnt need it but anyway i got a new Pace VDSL modem.

Now i am thinking that it might have been a mistake, it continually drops the connection, i connect my dlink adsl2+ router and it happily stays connected.

I have tried it on 3 separate ISP accounts, same result, Pace disconnects(no matter what modulation i use), Dlink no problems.

Stats from the modem: DLINK
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 60 76
Attenuation (dB): 325 167
Output Power (dBm): 0 123
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 17836 1068
Rate (Kbps): 16136 1019
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.12 0.24

Drop your sync speed to 15Mbps (possibly lower), your SNR is at 6 which means it's going to very unstable.

It shows 20Mbps attainable rate. But if you look at his SNR, it is only 12.4db while syncing on 10Mbps, so chances are he will get closer to 14Mbps, possibly 16Mbps, and his SNR will drop to around 6db when he sync at those speeds. I talk out of experience, being on a line that sync at around 13db while on 10Mbps, and it did sync at 16Mbps at one stage.

R100 more to go from 10Mbps ADSL to 20Mbps VDSL.

What about Adsl 2+ 20 Mbps

I don't see that option at the ISP

That Pace is horrible quality with lines, if I go into the stats tool compared to my netgear (Adsl2+ on both)...

Pace snr down: 11.4
Netgear: 12.3
Pace snr up: 7.4
Netgear: 13.8
Pace Attenuation Down: 20.2
Netgear: 17
Pace Attenuation Up: 8.9
Netgear 10.3

I cant get VDSL sync at all and on Adsl2+ I get disconnects with Pace. I am doing a warranty swap because such a night and day difference something must be wrong.

What about Adsl 2+ 20 Mbps

I don't see that option at the ISP

It's not a product, 20mb VDSL is what telkom wants to push, the technicians seem to make the judgement call on what to use (eg no vdsl sync for me, I'm guessing its either the Pace or my line cant handle the upstream that 2mbps would use)

Same here, no VDSL sync at all and ADSL2+ disconnects on the Pace. I'm going back to 10mb, i had very good speeds and no problems.

Did the upgrade now sitting at 15 mbps. Line stats aren't awesome but so far seems stable.

I'm on the ADSL2+ 10239/1019 profile at the moment;
Stats on my DGN2200 are:

SNR: 11.9db down 10.5db up.
Attentuation: 19.0db down 6.2db up.

I'm not too clued up, but after comparing some others stats to mine, I think I could get 20mbps on ADSL2+? (since its available in my area). Exchange is like 800m from me.

What do you guys think?

I'm thinking 15 should be reachable, not sure about 20. In your place I'd see what I could get, worst case you waste R100 and get internet loss for a day or two.

After placing the order for 20Mb/s VDSL last week, the ADSL modem suddenly disconnected today and when it came back on, it was syncing at 15Mb/s.

The speedtest page confirmed the higher speeds, so I proceeded with the line verification in order to activate the VDSL profile. A few seconds later the modem disconnected again.

Purchased the PACE VDSL modem from Telkom, but now the line is not syncing with either the VDSL or ADSL modems. :(

Just a word of warning...

I upgraded to VDSL and Telkom processed the order.... then I could not connect.

16 days later and with the help of the Telkom rep, we find out that my exchange does not support VDSL LOL

The processed the order anyway. So just because it says on the site that you can get 20 meg and your isp processes the order... it does not mean that you will actually be able to get it.

Same thing happened at our office.
