Anyone tell me what the price is for adsl 20+, telkom website seems to only mention vdsl.
Is a vdsl modem required for this or will a normal adsl modem work?? Phoned telkom but was told I need a vdsl modem.

Anyone take a look and let me know if line will handle 20mbps
My ADSL availability says:
Maximum available: 4Mbps
Current service speed: 10Mbps
I'm on 10mbps and it's perfectly stable. No sign of 20Mbps though.
It shows 20Mbps attainable rate. But if you look at his SNR, it is only 12.4db while syncing on 10Mbps, so chances are he will get closer to 14Mbps, possibly 16Mbps, and his SNR will drop to around 6db when he sync at those speeds. I talk out of experience, being on a line that sync at around 13db while on 10Mbps, and it did sync at 16Mbps at one stage.It's already handling 20mbps sync ?

Wrong.If your attenuation is very good your speed drops are next to nothing, between 4mbit and 10mbit my line stats didnt change and from 10 to to my SNR dropped by probably 3 points or so. If I do a speedtest I get 17.5mb at a 20mb sync with the the following attenuation's...
Downstream Attenuation: 17
Upstream Attenuation: 10
I speak from experiance too as someone who went from 4 to 10 to 20 just under 2 weeks ago.
EDIT: Remember SNR drops over distance so the closer you are the less it hurts, I'm 1,3km+- away.

Attenuation changes based on distance, thus drop over distance.
SNR is based on how good the signal is. The higher the speed, the lower your SNR drops, because more of the available signal gets used. It is impossible to stay the same on different speeds. You may speak from your own experience, but you are also talking out of your ass. Go read up on how SNR works before you start an argument you can't win.
Additionally, the guy's attenuation is far higher than yours, there is a good chance he can't keep a stable sync at 20Mbps, but is 100% fine at 10Mbps. It is also very probably he will sync between 14-16Mbps with his specific attenuation.

You just assumed I was meaning SNR has the same relation to distance that attenuation does.
Attenuation is tightly related to distance, snr when combined with a speed (say 10mbit) will be vastly different at 17 attenuation compared to say 35 attenuation thus snr does indeed drop by distance it just requires a speed pairing. It gets affected exponentially as distance and conditions change thus it is not tightly related. That's why I mentioned the drop over distance.
I can only assume that from 4-10 megabits my attenuation was good enough for there to not be a measurable difference, 10-20 I did say it dropped some points (See above where exponentially mentioned), feel free to believe that it's "Talking out my ass", I dont need to prove myself to people like yourself.

That said, I have realized this is wasting time, I will not carry on with this pointless argument. Please just stop spreading incorrect advice where possible.
Ok. So opinion worth going the 20mbps route with my line? Would I have sync issue even with 15 mbps?
