Hey Telkom/etc

Any chance I can get an idea when my DP ( Distribution Point ) will be bumped up to the new 10mb standard? I'm told by the call center that my exchange is provisioned for 10mb - But the DP is still on 4mb.

Really keen to start taking advantage of the new speed options, but I'm stuck with my "lowly" 4mb line :)

Thanks!

I am in the same boat here, line capacity 10Mbs but the exchange (Clearwater/Strubens Valley, Woes Rand) can only handle 4Mbs.

I'm also apparently stuck on 4mb due to mini dslam only being able to handle up to that. What does the 10mbps mean according to the attachment ? Any ideas ?

Same boat.
DSLAM connected too ATM.
kirkwood
4Mbps max.

I asked for this info, but never got a straight answer.

AFAIK (from feedback from TelkomZA back in August) it will be challenging to upgrade a MiniDSLAM (might be different for yours):

TelkomZA said:
... unfortunately it is not an option to move you for you are connected to a UMC (Mini DSLam). The DSLam is however not congested, it is connected via a STM1 (155meg) link running at 18% utilization during peak times....

Same boat... Can't get 10Mbps in my area (Greenstone Hill)

Something I've been thinking about though-
If those that were on the 4Mbps line were upgraded to the 10Mbps line at no additional cost (i.e. R369 pm), and those on the 2Mbps line were upgraded to the 4Mbps line at no additional cost (i.e. R249 pm), then surely those of us that were on the 4Mbps but NOT upgraded to the 10Mbps lines are paying too much?? (i.e. R369 vs R249 = R120 extra pm)

I asked that to one of the Telkom contact centre agents and could feel the blank stare through the phone... Needless to say I didn't get a straight answer and when I did ask to "downgrade" me from the old 4Mbps to the new 4Mbps pricing, there was a downgrade fee involved...

Just no winning with these tools...

Man that would make me one happy dude? Are they going to bump me up to two meg?

My farther who is on the board for Molapo Technology and deals with just about all the telecommunication repairs in SA and the UK, has said to me the reason why telkom is not really upgrading the exchanges to a 10MB capacity is due to software costs and equipment costs, he has just recently been dealing with the whole LTE roll out for vodacom and MTN and says that he is working with the MSAT on Telkom and they are just having budgeting problems

I've been on 2Mb since somewhere middle November. Phone them and ask for the free upgrade. 10210 - option 1, then 2 (if I remember correctly, Internet faults/technical).
