128K Virgin Mobile Sim

Pardon my intrusion ...

The problem is this: Cellphone companies don't manufacture their own sim cards. It is manufactured for them by other companies. If they receive faulty sims then they are not to be held responsible but the companies that manufacture the sims are the ones that have to be held responsible.

While I understand your statement, I disagree with the passing of blame solely to the manufacturers.

As a company offering a branded service, it is in VM's interest to inspect product manufactured for them by a third-party. A random sample to make sure that what they sell to consumers does in fact work as intended. Yes, shortcuts can be done here, but in the long-run it'll only serve to give them a bad reputation and result in lower sales.

I know that VM was in a rush to launch and 'get to market' but that's no excuse to release faulty sims into the market and cause customer frustration. Due diligence should've been taken. This should apply for every company in South Africa - I'm not picking or taking sides, merely highlighting that companies should take pride in the services they offer and then hopefully consumerism will grow.

I got your point, but I'm sure Virgin Mobile did not test their sims with MTN or Vodacom Data Cards because they have the Sony-Ericsson EDGE card.

Piesang, thanks for trying to help. Since my phone is not a 3G phone I don't use a "data" card the problem seems to be ??????????????Who knows?????????? I spoke to darlington, he had me reset the phone, got new settings and still no luck, I'll keep you posted, maybe I can get it to work. What's Vrgin's refund policy, while we're still on topic?

Have you tried a different phone? Maybe a friend or family members phone?

I will do that Piesang, thanks for trying to help. It's no use that I post in this thread, since I'm not a "data" customer, CIAO!

anyway......Piesang.....how did u get started with all this forwarding stuff??

Don't know really. I just wanted to start and help everyone here. Just like MTN Data Dude and vodacom3g. Only difference is I don't work for Virgin Mobile.

Well, it seems to work. And I learn a lot.:D

Hi Piesang,
Thanx for helpin us with the VM sims. I too have a connection problem which has been driving me nuts, at least now I see others having the same problem :-)
I got the VM sim about 3 weeks ago, and with great expectation I loaded it in the wife's N6680 (my P910i doesn't do EDGE). Wow, I got 170kbps, I am in Wonderboom Pta, the VM conn seems to take a while to connect, but at least it works. But the connection to virgin mobile just refuses to work with the SIM in the MTN HSDPA card, or the Duxbury USB GPRS/EDGE modem, which is where I need to use it... what a pity! I added the AT...."vdata" string, still just gives me the finger :-(
With the Duxbury modem, it seems to connect, for a few seconds, and then just bombs out evry time.
So I will mail thru my cell no, see if the 128K sim will work.
I'd be quite happy to go and collect / go swap at the Kolonade Musica where I bought the starterpack.
Keep up the good work!
viva VM for good value conn!

I forwarded your e-mail (same as the post) to Virgin Mobile this morning. Let me know if they follow up.

Thanks.

Got a call on Tuesday that they will deliver my sim on wed or thurs. Nothing yet. Hopefully today. Anybody else got their new sim in the promised time?
