Good Day

I am connect to my Netgear DGN 2200 modem at 150mbps but when I transfer a file to my other PC that is connected at 270mbps I only get about 4.8MB/s transfer rate. I also only using 25% on the 150mbps laptop. Why is this and can it be rectified?

Thank you

You are more than likely maxing out the transfer rate on the physical hard drives or you are using wireless which will never reach the theoretical maximum in any scenario. Wireless transfer rates will be even worse if the computers which you are transferring between are both wireless as they will need to share the wireless spectrum.

Yeah sounds like a wireless connection. 4.8 MBps is pretty good if it is indeed wireless. If you need better speeds then get a powerline adapter set or lay some cable.

4.8MB/s is 48 Mbps

big B is roughly 10 small b's.

Hardrives do way more than that typically. 150Mbps or 15 MB/s is like at 2 meters in ideal conditions packet sizes etc.

Doesn't sound too bad you can do almost anything with that bandwidth that you would need the wireless application for.

If it's just large file transfers maybe look at cabling or using an external hard drive.

You do know the DGN2200 can be set to 300Mbps?
