atm i am using billion 7401vgp adsl router for the whole house.

now i want to add http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-WNR854T-Rangemax-cable-Router/dp/B000GYHRTM to loop for better wireless access.( getting it cheap)

now i want to know if plug in that router from lan port from adsl router to wan port of that, can i sign in adsl accounts at the netgear?

mostly want to use as it's got gigabt lan, and when friends come over, 100mbs feels like 56k dailup :/

thanx

You should be able to dial PPPoE accounts from the Netgear if the Billion modem supports PPPoE Relaying/Passthrough (aka half-bridge mode), which might be disabled by default.

hmmmm let me go have look, because i though should support it also , just could not find it o.0

meh seems my router dont have bridge mode in drop down menu :(

Hi hereticangel,

The Billion 7401VGP does support PPPoE with Pass-through. If you don't see this option, make sure you have the latest firmware. You can get the firmware from the Billionsa website: http://www.billionsa.com/support/download/voip.html

Please phone 021 657 1317, or pm me if you need further assistance.

Hi hereticangel

I strongly suggest you do not purchase the WNR854T, as there is a design flaw with this router and its lifespan is limited to 6 - 9 months. It overheats and stops functioning. I have personally replaced 3 of these, see: http://forum1.netgear.com/search.php?searchid=4257992

Also, actual wireless throughput is around the 72 Mbps mark, should your notebook network adapter not support Mimo - like most HP Notebooks.

As an alternative, I would suggest: http://www.netgear.com/products/home/wirelessrouters/work-and-play/WNR3500L.aspx as this model is stable and offers far more functionality and the option of a guest network.

See http://www.pricecheck.co.za/search/?search=WNR3500L for pricing. Should you be interested, I can obtain the WNR3500L for +/- R 750.00; however you will have to collect in Tamboerskloof.

Regards

Michael
