2004 ICASA complain

Hi folks

I received some positive feedback from ICASA. I will inform you about the date of the public meeting as soon as I hear about it.

“The establishment of a committee of council on the ADSL service has been approved. The date of the public hearing will be communicated later. You and I have a responsibility to ensure that the hearing gets as much publicity as is possible and that many people attend because we do want to put the spotlight on Telkom. Thank you for your patience and assistance in this regard.

Lets keep in touch.

Regards Dianne”

I bet they'll have the public hearing in Joburg and I hope they'll have one in Cape Town and Durban too. If they have one in CT, I'll be there telling them why many, many, many people out there want ADSL very badly, but won't get it because of Telkom and their attitude towards ADSL.

If anything relating to Durban happens, I'm there - and I have at least 10 people I can think of who will accompany me [}:)]

This is great news. Well done to all who contributed to the complaint.

Telkom - South Africa's Handbrake to progress.

Great work RPM & everybody. One thing I'd like to bring up here - I created a thread for it in the cap forum - is that unused bandwidth from previous months should be carried over. It isn't mentioned in the ICASA pdf file linked to earlier, but perhaps we could bring it up at the meeting anyway? I feel strongly that Telkom _not_ carrying over any spare capacity is essentially theft on their part. I cannot see how it can be anything else. A shopkeeper for instance cannot simply not give you your 5 cents change from an item costing R1.95 that you paid for with a R2 coin just because he has no 5 cent pieces right? We pay for 3 gigs right?

Thanks

Ciao

Going to be kind of hard to state the 3 gigs is too little on one hand, and ask that unused portion of the 3 gigs be carried over.

Why? I don't understand... it seems to reinforce the fact that the 3 gigs is pathetic - there could be any number of reasons why you would have carry over from the previous month & still find the 3 gig cap unfair. I am the perfect example of this - I use the line very sparingly simply because I cannot afford 1 day of downtime. This month however I have hit the cap already despite my best efforts. Not at all contradictory IMHO.

I don't think many people actually have anything left at the end of the month.

Given the opportunity, Telkom would rather implement this as a solution and then monitor traffic on your local network to include in the cap...[:p]

But seriously, we don't want to give them alternatives that give them the oppertunity to impose even more rediculous constraints on the network.
