2007/2008 WI tour to SA thread

No idea why Prince got MOM, he came in with us well on top with no pressure but anyway

Was at the ground yesterday & the crowd was really great to Polly, Castle Corner especially were cheering him on all day & he was loving it, I'm sure we'll give him another great farewell at the ODI.

As for the borat that one fantastic fan, what a chop. He put in 5 mins effort for it while others slaved away for hours/days

yeah it could have gone to Smith although I would have given it to Dale. To take 6 wickets on that pitch was a lot harder then scoring a century that's for sure...

I guess quality or quantity...

Dale Steyn was fined for showing disrespect:

South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn has been found guilty under the International Cricket Council's Code of Conduct following an incident that took place during the third Test between South Africa and the West Indies in Durban.

Steyn was reported by the umpires - on-field officials Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar, third umpire Brian Jerling and fourth official Zed Ndamane -and charged under the section of the Code of Conduct which deals with breaches relating to the Spirit of Cricket.

The charge related to an incident during the West Indies' second innings with Steyn being found guilty of showing disrespect to batsman Marlon Samuels through his physical and verbal actions. Steyn pleaded not guilty to the charge.

"Taking everything into consideration and looking at video evidence of the incident I found the player guilty," said Roshan Mahanama of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, who heard the case.

"The Code of Conduct clearly states that players must, at all times, conduct play within the spirit of the game as well as within the laws.

It is something I discussed with the captains before the series began and I feel there is a need to show respect for the opposition, even in the heat of battle," said Mahanama.

"That said, when considering which penalty to impose I took into account that it was this player's first offence of this nature."

This will only happen if you're not an Aussie

Steyn got what he deserved for his little childish 'performance'

Anyway, MoM could have gone to that tub of lard Smith but Prince was more deserving having been consistently good in both innings! Think he scored 98 in the first innings.

Err, we only got to bat one innings, remember. AFAIK his 98 in the previous match is not relevant for this match's MoM. :)

Sheesh, whats with people predicting MoM when they think we batted twice & still won by an innings!
But yes, he scored 98 in Cape Town, so he would've come close to MotS

Record wise, i wonder how many tests have been won with losing 4 or less wickets

....and what did Aleem Dar get for denying Dale Steyn two LBW decisions early on in the day when hawkeye showed the ball hitting half way up middle stump in the one instance and about the same height between middle and leg for the other!?!?!

The players are unable to show frustration even when the umpires make shocking decisions and they are toiling away in 32 degree weather?!?!

Society is trying to sugar coat everything... no sledging in cricket, no rucking in rugby.... tut tut the world is becoming so damn PC!

Come on!.. these guys are mature, they know decisions are going to go against them and they know decisions are going to go for them.
He did not throw a tantrum when he got his first wicket in the 2nd innings, a catch of the pads, so, there is rules, abide by them or pay the penalty!

We won the series, but still dropped 2 places in the ICC test rankings...damn! :(

Also, there was I dunno, about half a point separating us, India and SL for 2nd, third and fourth place in the test rankings.

It works on a cycle, so previous tests that we won would've fallen out of the rankings, India might drop below us after the Aus series though

Rankings.....

And some explanation on these movements....

Drop in the rankings

Despite winning the third Test against the West Indies in Durban and the series 2-1, South Africa have slipped two places to fourth in the ICC Test Championship with India moving up to second.

The Proteas went into the series in second position knowing they needed to win the series at least 2-0 in order to maintain that lead.

Having lost the first Test in Port Elizabeth, Graeme Smith's team did well to win the series with victories at Cape Town and Durban, but such is the weighting system when playing teams further down the table, it means they lose one ratings point in the latest Test Championship table.

Given how tight it was with just two ratings points separating South Africa in second place and England in fifth, that single point has made a big difference to the table.

South Africa's loss is India's gain as Anil Kumble's team move up to second spot in the table. India are level on points with Sri Lanka but are shown to be ahead of Mahela Jayawardena's team when the points are calculated beyond the decimal point.

And despite losing the series, the West Indies can take some solace in the fact they have gained one ratings point in eighth place and have now closed the gap on New Zealand in seventh to 18 points.

It was far from being a joyless series for the men from the Caribbean after they registered their first ever Test win on South African soil with that PE victory.

Australia are still way out in front of the rest on 143 ratings points, some 34 clear of their nearest rivals.

The Championship table is updated only at the end of each series so it is likely some more movement will be seen in the coming weeks when the series involving Australia and India as well as New Zealand and Bangladesh come to an end.

Not sure it makes a lot of sense to me as even though we understandable moved down, so did West Indies....
