I liked Pieterson bowling wrist spin. There was a bit of fight. Pitty we did not have 25 more runs on the board.

BTW: WI also have a chance of getting through now. If they beat Eng and Bang and Eng beat us, we will all have 6 points. RR is then all important. We should have played to take one team out of the equation.

SA need a decent wrist spinner. It's not all that difficult to bowl, just takes practice and confidence. Boje would also have been good in the WC because of his experience.

I think we must start from #10 batsman (oops 11) and work upwards, maybe then we will win :D

Hmmm agreed but as a supporter you still gotta wish we make it to the finals. I mean before the tournament we had a blinder of a summer and even though they didn't show that kind of form in the WC I still want them to win it. Australia might be playing the best cricket but I dont like them :))).
While I agree, I get tired of blindly supporting total idiots. Why have we not got a quality spinner in WI? The political interference in the selection is absolute BS. It's like "lets pick our 7 players of colour first and then fill in the rest". That leaves 8 spaces. Now Kallis, Polly, Smith, AB, Boucher were always certainties. Kemp, Nel and Hall were all playing well coming in to the tourny so the only places up for grabs were for the "players of colour".

I don't see any of the other sides having to deal with a 1/2 squad "quota".

why does the race card come into sport when we do badly
is not peterson not the best we have in terms of spin and batting? yes he is good selection because we have good spinners

we have to look at whole team, smith usually goes early ab hits big runs every 3rd innings

give bosman a chance and leave out prince,

we will not win this world cup, purely because we cannot bat on all surfaces like the aussies

Harris/Boje would have gone in place of Pieterson. The reason Harris is not there is because UCB promised that half the team would be players of colour.

We have 4 guys in the top 10 batting. 1) JH Kallis (SA) - 463 5) GC Smith (SA) - 352 9) AB de Villiers (SA) - 315 10) HH Gibbs (SA) - 303

Some of the guys are going to be hit and miss. AB has had two of his 4 duck that were real snorters (Vaas and Franklin) and would have gotten out most batsmen. There is nothing wrong with our batting with the exception of the middle order (Kemp, Prince). Our problems are with bowling. We don't bowl sides out. Ntini should have been dropped ages ago but he is untouchable. Why is Telemachus there if they don't have faith in him?

give bosman a chance and leave out prince,
100% agree. Prince is not a 1 day player and if you do manage to squeeze him into the side, it should be in place of Kallis as they both play the same type of game. Bosman has been extremely unlucky. He has done nothing wrong but keeps getting dropped without having a chance.

we will not win this world cup, purely because we cannot bat on all surfaces like the aussies
Again, I say the problem is with our bowlers and not our batsmen. Look at the log.

Our batting run rate is second only to Aus and SL. We have actually scored the most runs by a long way (over 150 more then anyone else) but we have also had the most runs scored against us (150 more then anyone else and 500 more then Aus). It is probably no coinsidence as we are the only team that don't consistantly have a good spinner in the side. See what we did to the Windies when they went in against us without a full time spinner.

For more info on the quota:

http://sport.iafrica.com/cricket/team/630233.htm

The quota for the World Cup was 7 players of colour:

"South Africa has met its target of seven black players in the national squad for the World Cup, and is close to being able to drop targets for future national teams."

That quota was decided in Feb 2005.

http://sport.iafrica.com/cricket/team/603238.htm

"The squad included seven black players, meeting the World Cup target announced by Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola in February 2005."

How you can decide two years before a tournament how many players of a specific colour will be in a squad is beyond me. What happens if the top 5 bowlers and top 5 batsmen in the world were white SA players?

Very disappointing game last night.

Lots of mistakes made by SA, but the biggest one(s) : 3 dropped catches!

Like our cricket coach always used to say : ''Catches win matches.''

Did anyone really stay up to watch the end of the match hoping that we would win when we dropped 3 catches??

No way  Went to sleep and logged on now to see by how much we lost :D

I wish Gerald Majola and co do the sensible thing and accept blame for the quota fiasco. Setting targets 2 years before the WC is just plain stupid. Most of the guys in the squad tho, can hold their own against anyone BUT with two exceptions, Peterson and Telemachus. Sorry to go on and on and on...but I challenge anyone to pull up Pieterson's stats and tell me he IS our best. Then Telemachus should be a certainty for the 20/20 WC in SA later this year. He has 2 or 3 good overs but the man always battles his fitness. He is past his prime but it is MY opinion only. If they HAD to select a player of colour, Garnett Kruger should have gone in his place. The man destroyed most teams in the Pro20 this season and actually won it, along with exciting Friedel de Wet for the Lions. Yes it is the Pro20 but he is much fitter than Roger Tele.

Anyway, enough said, it just hurts when you support your team 100% BUT the team you are supporting is NOT our best

Yeah I did, guess I'm a die hard supporter :). But ya I don't really care if we face Australia in the semis, they're due for payback for '99 anyway and it's time to put Mr. Ponting in his place.

It feels crap knowing that no other side have to deal with the quota thing. Like England e.g. no quota but they still have Mahmood, Bopara and Panesar in their team.

I totally agree with you. The difference is Eng can leave out ALL three of those players and nothing will happen.

Our problem is that we HAD to bring "fringe" players to cover for the players of colour. If Ntini / Pieterson is dropped, Telemachus / Langeveldt should replace them. If Prince or Gibbs get dropped then there is Bosman.
The only exception to this "rule" would be if Hall goes, then Kemp will replace him.
Think I'm wrong? What happened when Nel (w) replaced Langeveldt (c)? Kemp HAD to make way for Bosman, and now Bosman made way for Pieterson. The fortunate thing is that Kemp is not in form, but then what about Ntini not taking wickets?

Crap crap crap

My point EXACTLY. We (my self not included) still seem to think that if we lose with a side full of white players it's because of their colour they lost the match, which is absolutely retarded and so is Gerald Majola for coming up with this thing 2 years before the WC *shakes head*.

Anyway enough of this bull, we gotta get down to discussing Tuesdays match.

Langevelt IN - Ntini OUT
Maybe Bosman IN - Prince OUT
Pietersen

What you guys think?

I think dropping prince is stupid, if kallis is going guts and glory like he has, if he pulls it off, the lower order will not need to bat, if he fails you need prince to hold up the downfall. Look at the bating yesterday, take princes knock out of it and what you have left? Yesterday's game was a freak of a game, no mater how you look at it. The Nz got lucky and the ICC seriously need to relook at pitch preparations as having a pitch do that in the semi's or finals is gonna get a hell of alot of bitching about esp if its Nz or Aus on th receiving end.
