I think dropping prince is stupid, if kallis is going guts and glory like he has, if he pulls it off, the lower order will not need to bat, if he fails you need prince to hold up the downfall. Look at the bating yesterday, take princes knock out of it and what you have left? Yesterday's game was a freak of a game, no mater how you look at it. The Nz got lucky and the ICC seriously need to relook at pitch preparations as having a pitch do that in the semi's or finals is gonna get a hell of alot of bitching about esp if its Nz or Aus on th receiving end.

Yes, if Herchelle Gibbs plays like it's a five day game, you just know something is wrong...

Agree with Abe, and as i mentioned in this foRum numerous times in the round robin stage (and u guys didnt listen and actually made some other arguement to try and justify your sub-par bowlimg) , u could see back then just by looking at the stats that sa bowling wasnt doing so well. And the ongoing spinner problem, well thats is the selectors fault - u dont just decide to play peterson now - bunch of tossers these selectors.

The really screwed up thing is that SA is hopefully headed towards the semis and they dont have a settled squad

You're right - SA has a huge problem as far as the bowling attack is concerned. Like Omar Henry said last night in the studio, after the game - for some reason spinners just don't get recognition in SA & we've seen how vital spinners have been in this World Cup.

Still think that SA selector should've kept his mouth shut and then Nicky Boje might have made himself available for this World Cup - and he is an excellent batsman as well... Ah well, too late now.

Me thinks Boje must be so 'happy' with the SA team bowling performance

Just shows, don't mix politics with sport!

Still, we are 3 games away from winning it now ...if you want to look on the bright side of things :p

Imagine if we win it without ever bowling a side out and losing three games on the way!

I honestly think that Langevelt is a good player, I don't even think about his racial background, he's good and he deserves to be there. Ntini on the other hand is underperforming, I don't see why he should receive preferential treatment and be guaranteed a place in the team regardless of his performance. He needs to go back to domestic level and learn to add some variety to his attack. He doesn't even have a basic slower ball FFS! It's all fine and dandy when he plays on SA pitches, but take him overseas and he gets torn apart. Langevelt should replace him, because he can do so much more with the ball. The bonus is that it would also satisfy the crappy quota.

general agreement here.

langevelt is much more flexible as a bowler. Ntini is great on fast SA pitches, but like Kallis' batting, is very one-dimensional.

I say swap Ntini for Langevelt for the rest of the WC for sure.

I am looking and I still don't see how 37 of 57 balls is that great for the cause. After Gibbs went out, Prince had to stay there and let the players on the other side get the big runs but he went out tamely.

If you look at the MTN One days in SA. The leading spinning wicket taker was Claude Henderson with 10 wickets. In the Supersport Series (4 day), the leading spinners were Boje (36) and Henderson (34). Oh and if you are interested, Peterson only got 20 wickets although he did play 2 games less then Henderson (5 games).

It's not just a decent spinner that's our problem, it's also Ntini occupying a guaranteed spot that could be fulfilled by somebody with more variety in their attack. Does anybody remember him going around the wicket, swinging the ball both ways or ever bowling a slower ball? Not to mention that with his angle of attack, he'll hardly ever get an lbw decision in his favour. We're basically playing with 10 men.

They wont drop ntini - and if they did he would be replaced by a quota bowler.

well his dismissal was silly and like kallis seem to just throw it away when in both instances we needed them to bat on. That being said the other side faired quite badly.

Yip, Ntini is by far our worst pace bowler stats wise. He is the most expensive of the regulars and has taken the least number of wickets. About the best thing he has done was the cover drive a couple of games back.

I don't mind that at this point. Langeveld is a quota player who deserves to be there and deserves to be in the side. The NZ loss was probably a blessing in disguise as hopefully it will force their hand into dropping Ntini for the crunch game (Eng).

[Edit]More here, of the three games we lost, Langeveld was only playing in one, Aus, which was always going to be a tight game. The two other NZ and Bang, he did not play and the SL game he won for us with his last over heroics.[/EDIT]
