Maybe the South African team cannot handle the slow pitches? As someone said earlier, there's no plan B

Nah thats cant be the reason everyone knows how slow the pitches are in the sub-continent and Windies, surely they had time to find a team adaptable to them by now. We do have a plan B which is Kallis, Plan C which is Prince D etc etc etc most of the batsmen in the SA team could pushed till the end of the 50 overs. But they didnt or didnt want to.

Well if u need 11 an over and u don't have good players u might as well make as many runs as u can seeing that winning is not a reality. Keep the NetRR up. Still no excuse to be thumped by Bangladesh though.

WI have figured out our weakness. Not the pitch but spinners and medium paced bowlers. play 2 spinners and a medium paced bowler. 2 Quickies to open and we're gone. Kemp has no idea how to play non-fast bowlers. Gayle will be a big problem for us. His batting and bowling. Remember how he took us apart in the Champions trophy. Hope we've improved in the last few days.

Now the part i find really funny.

There is 8 overs left u need a run rate of 11+ HOW can you stand there an not moer the bloody ball... all is lost anyway. But no.... Block, next ball 1 run... If all is lost you might as well just go big !

I think this is the thing that has made a lot of people really angry about Saturday. Sure, they were in a difficult position but what good can batting at 2.5 per over in that situation achieve? At least fight it.

If you're losing your matches anyway, NRR is not a factor. I'm so tired of all the talk about NRR. Win your matches and NRR doesn't enter into it.

You just contradicted yourself there. If you losing at least get a little out of the game. Bat for 50 overs.

One major thing SA need to worry about is bowling out the other team, SA cant do that for some reason, they like playing this "economical" style of cricket.
They saw what Malinga can do, regardless of his economy of 7 runs an over.

I agree with you man. At least try to win it! If Ireland's NRR is +20 and they still don't win a game, it does not mean very much...

Your 100% correct. Sorry man.

I just can't get over us losing to some Tiger wranglers.... WTH ?
We played like retarts and the same went for the Aussie game... What happened agains SL ? O well there goes another chance... The Best 1 day team SA has ever had and they do this... we're a lost case I tell u ... lost !

No sweat!! :)

A lot of people seem to be concentrating on the secondary qualifying criteria of NRR; bat first for a good run rate, protect your runrate in a losing situation.

I think we should rather concentrate on the match results, the primary qualification for the semis. Take care of that and the NRR takes care of itself.

Also, it is arguable whether your run rate would be better off in that situation blocking and trying to see out your 50overs (which we didn't, in any case, manage) or hitting out, scoring a couple more runs against the loss.

I at least want to see them try to win the match against an associate nation, rather than just rolling over.

You're right though, in saying that SA need to actually bowl a team out. We haven't managed that against Netherlands, Scotland, Aus, Ireland, or Bangladesh and only just against SL. It is a very serious problem.

but to be honest we have never liked slow pitches and thats all we have played on

where as the aussies have had the 300 pitches

im not making excuses just saying the pitches we have played on have been kuk

we cannot play spin or slow bowler always been like this, we like the ball coming onto the bat but in saying that its about time we started to get a clue

the aussies can play well on any pitch and thats what makes them so great

also the selecters are idiots, on a slow pitch you put out an all out pace attack, not only can pieterson bowl spin rather effectivly he can also bat so its a win win all round

If u r losing then make the best of it...10 overs to go we need 11 an over with two wickets in hand for example. chances of winning with ur last two are slim so rather increase ur rate.

Look at the tables now. Eng, SA and WI will be battling each other and chances are NRR will determine who gets through. Windies still need to play the minnows and they can raise their NRR by a lot there. NRR might decide the last position from the looks of it unless SA win all their remaining games.

Exactly. It is like we go into each game thinking that we are going to lose anyway and just try not to get beaten too badly. Which is madness when chasing 250 against the 2nd worst team left in the competition.

Yip when you lose all you have is NRR to help you scrap through.

But the problem is, SA started way too soon to think about just settling for a small loss. They were almost never going after the total, specially after a few wickets had fallen. Can you ever imagine the Aussies doing that??

glenn mgrath had it correct when he said we are scared to loose :)

its quite simple nrr wont make a difference if we beat england and west indies because they will both be out

if we can get are shyte together we can beat nz eng and wi

but on current form they will all beat us

maybe if we had tried to whip some of the lower team we wouldnt have a bad nrr

So don't lose.

Really, we are supposedly the top one day team in the world. It is humiliating to be trying to not lose too badly to Bangladesh. hj_2kx said it "Can you imagine Aus stooping to that kind of play".

Ok maybe I have this wrong.

U bat for 50 overs @ lets say 4 runs per over = 200 runs

U bat and all out for 40 overs but have a runs rate of 7 = 280

Where in this equasion does it say not "moering" the ball as a last resort is good ?

Cos if you're all out your runs are still considered over the full 50 overs, anyway.

So if you're out in 40 overs after hitting 7 rpo, your run rate for the purposes of NRR is 280/50= 5.3rpo.

Ok i see....

So moering the ball might be a 50/50 gamble... Which i would take in the situasion we where in on Saturday. Don't u agree ?

Let's just support our team today and hope we win...what happened against Bangladesh is history and hope we've learnt from it. If don't make semis this time we need a new team. We need to give our younger players a chance now.

this is the west indies

gayle always get a big score against us in big games and we always loose to them i dont think anything is going to change today but im hoping it does

the west indies can sniff the semi's now that we lost to bang

Exactly. Except we played it safe, and still didn't see out our 50 overs.

So perhaps we'd have been better off actually hitting out: We probably still would have lost, but at least we'd be giving ourselves a chance to win, possibly improving our NRR, and looking like a team with some fight in it.
