Hi Guys,
I have the above vehicle and been giving me issues.

It isn't all the time that this is happening but most of the time.

When I start my car, it will startup and then switch off and normally I need to rev the car to get the idling stabilised.

The vehicle has also lost power. I have tested the spark plugs and test ed the spark plug leads. Those are ok.

Now this next problem I had is a writer fault and I am not sure what it is.

I was driving and the car was running ok. All of a sudden the car lost all power and even after putting foot down in the accelerator the car would cut off. It wouldn't start after that. Even jump starting the car it would start but there was no power and it switches off. Not even the emergency lights would come on.

My girl friend towed me home and I left it in the garage. The next morning I went to have a look and it started first time and Haven't had that issue since then which was 2 weeks ago.

I don't have the funds for a mechanic at the moment so testing what I can test

Remove the idle control valve and give it a good clean, you will probably find that it's filled with gunk, report back on the progress and we'll move on to something else. Get a tin of carburettor and brake clear spray for cleaning.

I will do that today and let you know the progress. Thanks for the tip

Start here, we have dedicated thread for these endless money pits :P

Sup guys.. Anyone know if the Opel corsa gsi side skirts will fit on the Opel corsa utility bakkie?

Just a note. I haven't had a chance yet. I purchase the carb cleaner but I should be able to do the idle valve today. I will let you know an update once I have done it.

These cars have 3 issues with regards to sensors.

Idle control valve. Gets dirty affecting idling.
Coilpack. Sits next to the engine block so the heat breaks it.
Crank angle sensor.

Icv is R180 Goldwagon
Coilpack is R450 at Midas
Crank sensor is R160 at Midas

You don't need to replace them unless they are faulty just giving you a headsup.

The idling is much better with the clean of the idle valve. It had alot of black oil on.
That sorted the idling but when I drive up hill I need to go in to 2nd gear otherwise I have to put foot down on third gear going up hill.
I am going to replace the coil and see if I get more power after that.

Hi Bud
Is this the ignition coil pack you are talking about. I am going through to Midas on Tuesday. I have been googling and I believe some vehicles use between 2 and 4 coil packs depending on the cylinders. The R450 is only for 1 of those coil packs? Or does the Corsa lite use 1 coil pack for all 4 spark plugs.

Yes it's the ignition coilpack. Just check the pins and take a photo. It's a very simple process to change sits right next to the block tighten with 3 spline screws.

This is been my main issue with the car all the time. Replaced the Coilpack 2 times and they are cheap unless Midas has upped prices the last one I bought was R450 and is still lasting. The Corsa Lite uses 1 coilpack for all 4 spark plugs.

Thank you for your help. There are a few issues with my Corsa but will do one at a time.

Good idea, the coil seems to be the weakest link in the Corsa, many people are just too fast to go fiddle with computer boxes and other complicated stuff, introducing more problems.

I've had my car for years now, all I have ever replaced was a coil (twice) and a TPS. The coil can throw you out as it can fail in a number of different ways, the first time it was working at lunch time and completely dead when I tried to start the car later. Second time it would work okay and at random times fail on two cylinders, the car would lose power and miraculously come back to life and work as is nothing happened when I switch it off and on again.

That is similar to the issue I am having with my vehicle. The engine light mainly stays on and ones in a while the car will run ok where the light goes off. My other problem I'm having is my hand break light stays on, there is fluid but only sometimes when I push my breaks my rear left wheel is grounding against something but will look at that after the coil.

Mechanical problems are nice and very easy to deal with, but do take it as urgent especially if you are driving the car, brakes are serious business.

Handbrake light usually means low fluid or the switch could be faulty, but the grinding noise could also mean something is sticking.

Agree here, the coil pack and HT leads are the only issue my Corsa ever gave me, then again they were originals with 100k on them so fair play.

More worrying is I looked into the throttle the other day, from where the head's breather enters all the way back is just massive amounts of thick thick oil all round right the way back.. Will have to clean that up at some point.

I called Midas and they are R556 for the coil. Goldwagon is R750 I have contacted the following company to see if the following link will work with my Corsa. My pins are the 4 pin connectors

I'd say get the one from Goldwagen. Chances are they are all exactly the same item from exactly the same manufacturer but at least with Goldwagen you know that you'll get the best of the crap parts currently available.

Yeah, it's probably the same thing, I had a premature failure on the last one I bought at Goldwagen, so I wouldn't be picky.
