2009 ICC Champions Trophy

I think the game was decided with the toss. 3 day nighters at centurion where the team batting second lost, and the team batting first put up more then 300. Thank you to the CSA for scheduling all SA's games at Centurion to spite the Gauteng Cricket Board.

I'm afraid that if not for Smith, we would have been totally destroyed.

I think the supporters leaving the game at the 35 over didnt help the batsmen in the middle... Why would the people leave? Thats stupid.
The batsmen must have felt pretty embarrassed by that.

Anyhow, I think I know how the Proteas can get out of this chokers tag.....

A very disapointing result.

A lot of questions need to be asked of our bowlers, far too expensive - especially in home conditions. Perhaps they need to look at the bowling coach, Vincent Barnes. He couldn't get Morne Morkel performing and instead they sent him to get some experience in the Supersport Series. Maybe Barnes should look at getting some input from the likes of Shaun Pollock or Craig Matthews - guys who were very good at keeping things tight. The extra input couldn't hurt especially as there is no "mentor" type bowler in the side at the moment to which the youngsters can turn to.

There is Ntini, he can teach them how to bowl slower balls.

Albie and Duminy, too much hype and they never perform...
Sack them both, give Abdullah a chance... and some other newbies.

Albie isn't there primarily for his bowling, and the run out was a bit unfortunate. But Duminy is there for his batting, and he doesn't bat like a middle overs batsman. He doesn't rotate the strike when he needs to, soaks up a lot of deliveries and then gets out for too few runs. He's still living off his test series success against the Aussies, but I'm still waiting to see what he's done in the ODIs.

When I suggested that Abdullah plays, people laughed at me saying that he's a T20 specialist. How can you gauge a players skill if he's not given the chance? The should test him out against England during their tour.

How are CSA to blame for bowlers leaking over 300 runs twice in 3 games??

This article sums it up nicely for me;

If people are going to throw the inevitable “choke” word into circulation, then maybe the Proteas batsmen, with Smith once again underlining his personal relish for scrapping defiantly with heavy seas, can be exempted from the charge sheet.

SA have a fantastic record at centurion. Had nothing to do with the ground and we usually win there when chasing . We lost because we conceded 320 twice. We underperformed had nothing to do with venue or pitch conditions. Our bowlers were under prepared and played poorly.

Albie hasnt performed in my opinion... even the T20 WC, there was hype but nothing else. Hes not a very good bowler, and from what Ive seen not a very good batsmen, potential aside.
Did you see Johnson play? Hes an excellent bowler and a far better batsmen than Morkel...
Albie needs to perform or atleast be pressured to perform.

Overall the Proteas are a good team, but they need to learn to cross the finish line, and that goes down to captaincy... Smith messed up in the field, he tried to save it in the end... too late. Underestimated the English.

Next game today, the Indians vs Aussies...
This Indian team seems to have some internal problems, hope they pull through, the Windies almost beat the Aussies, but I dont think Ponting will underestimate the Indians.

Yea albie has not performed i agree, he is also in my opinion a shocking bowler.

I still think getting run out for single is farkin stupid, FFS why try sneak a single when you can blast 4's and 6's like albie can.

I honestly dont think SA have any excuses, they are a very good professional outfit.
SA knew that they had a job to do, and what was required to win.
The excuse about going into a comp being a bit rusty and not much match time, is getting old now.

At the end of the day SA bowled poorly, and under estimated both opposition.

I think the English where also fired up alot more than SA, due to all the press and trash talk about them, for getting a hiding against the Ozzies in the ODI's recently.

England:
25 fours; 12 sixes.

SA:
29 fours; 2 sixes.

We scored 3 sixes in three games with 18 sixes conceded. KFC had to up the donation from R20k to R100k per six, because we were scoring so few:o.

Bowlers need a whipping and Mickey coming out and saying he wouldnt mind coaching England before the tournament started didnt help us.

Smith always has chest pains and aches and is cramping needing a juice bottle with a pipe into his mouth toward the end. He covered 10km .. not 50

As a marathon runner I get a bit peeved at the way they overstate these distances, even with a GPS sometimes (which is bloody inaccurate on multiple short sprints).

Smith covered only 3.04km in 3hrs 36min according to the actual runs he ran (excluding boundaries etc) in partnerships....don't care what his GPS says.

I have seen figures of 15km for fielders--absolutely impossible even if you give them maximum distance for ball chases.

I believe that the English team didn't require passports and are saving lots of money staying with family:D:p
