2014 Jeep Cherokee

Quantum is correct, unfortunately..

The Grand Cherokee is a nice(ish) looking vehicle... the Cherokee is hideous.
 
Looks like someone grabbed it on the lips and said 'Zip it!'

Something not quite right with the looks
 
For me it's the headlights that kill it, if they were a bit more chunkier and square I think it would look better. What does the back end look like?

And the Subaru website don't reflect what they give you if you go to the dealerships (the website is bad, you should be able to tell just by looking at it). I know since I bought a new Forester, and they even put in after market leather free of charge. Came in at R301K. Subaru Bruma, feel free to give them a shout.

Hmmm ... you chastise QT for him wanting to justify his purchase but your 1billion times (yes 1 billion!) was not perhaps in the same vein? A bit hypocritical no?

Erm, those are 2 different vehicles I mentioned. The 1 billion was referring to the VW and in the other sentence I was referring to the Subaru. I think you got confused. My hyperbole was intentional though, should be obvious. That being said, I have incidentally bought a Tiguan as well, and given the choice I would probably not buy it again. Although it's a good car, I think as an overall package with some off-road in mind, the Subaru is better. I don't idolize cars, and can see where they have flaws. After a test drive in the Jeep (Compass & Cherokee) and some research I came to the same conclusion that many others do -it's not the best workmanship, but it's cheap.

If you want to debate Jeep's quality when compared to their German or Japanese counterparts, then you are lost. Since it's not a debate worth having.

In the entry level niche Jeep is not a good choice as there are better alternatives. The higher end Jeeps might be worth a go if you want a very capable 4x4 for cheap. You have to be aware of the risks involved though. If it breaks, Chrysler won't have your back like many other manufacturers do.
 
My apologies as I misread your posts.

As to a Subaru forester, I am a fanboi so I cannot argue there. The only thing that put me off was the 3yr/75000 maintenance plan vs. the 'standard' 3yr/100000 that most other manufacturers offer.

The only Jeep I have looked at is the Rubicon :love:

The Rubicon used to be awesome - no idea if the current gen suffers from the same lack in quality as the rest of the lineup. I'm so sick of the mediocre handling in SUV/4x4's though, I want a gt86! :P

I've had a busy day, so I let you continue with your assault on the Jeep brand.

My thoughts.

The Patriot/Compass quality has been good since the 2011 facelift. I've had mine for a year now. Trouble free enjoyable motoring. No issues besides a switch and a wheel alignment issue that were both sorted under motorplan. Nothing wrong with the service from Jeep Century City. It has been better than any other car I've owned before.

As for the other models... Wrangler with the Pentastar V6 is one of the best 4x4's out there. New Grand has been good and now apparently even better with the new diesel and 8-speed box. The new Cherokee, that this thread is actually about, will probably also be a massive leap forward, despite the weird looks.

Lots of happy Jeepers out there that stick with the brand. This brand is going places :)

I do really like the Forester, but when I was buying, I could not find a demo in my budget...

Now stick to the subject! What do you think of the new Cherokee's styling?

You seem to think because you have a good experience with a 1 year old car it's reliable. I did kinda chuckle when I read that. You might get lucky and drive it for 10 years before it breaks. But you'll be very lucky.

Overall they are fixing the brand from the 2009 low - those were seriously horrible cars and the group made a loss of half a billion that year if I recall. But still it's not up to scratch; I just don't see how you can justify buying a Jeep with all the reliable alternatives.

Back to the styling though. There's this very interesting concept in the fast food industry. To have a product that stays popular for a long time, you need to give it a "boring" taste - can't be too strong. Even though the customers will love a product with a very strong taste at first, they will quickly grow tired of it because the taste is so distinctive.

I think the same goes for styling in cars. If you make something too extreme it might look good for a while, but people will quickly grow tired of it and it's easy to block it into an era. This Jeep design is too radical IMHO, I think it will age very quickly. Same as the Juke.

You will obviously keep going, so this is my last reply to you. Chuckle all you want. Just sharing my experience so far. I don't have to justify anything. Justifies itself. Got a demo with 8000km on the clock and a full maintenance plan to 100000km for a better price than anything else on the market. Then they also gave me what I wanted for my previous POS from Korea. Nobody else would... Not even the dealer I bought it from.

A year and many adventures later and my next car will be a bigger off-roader, but still a Jeep.

What make and year was your POS Korean car?

Do the research, find out what's the best overall package for your Rand and go with it. That you say your next car is going to be a Jeep without considering other options make you look like a noodle.

I sincerely hope you don't get the special "Jeep service" once the warranty pops. Because then you'll soon be ranting about your POS Jeep! It's a joke, lighten up. I went through the same thing when we had a Peugeot convertible. Was awesome. Awesome till it broke down and the dealers screwed us over left and right. With a bit of research I would have known to stay clear of Peugeot. And from the experience I say to you, don't put yourself in a position to get burned.
