No word on engine and transmission options. The press release mostly talks about exterior design and some interior features, like the LED display (which will be optional after all) and head-up display, as well as the next gen infotainment options. However, if all these systems are next gen, I'm thinking that we will see the same thing in the engines and gearboxes. Fully spec'ed 2015 Passat will end up being damn expensive though.

Sounds like it will still be a 7-speed DSG and the following engines...

A range of engines will be offered in Europe, including two versions of the 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged inline-four, putting out either 123 or 148 horsepower. There's also a 1.8-liter TSI four rated at 177 hp, and a 2.0-liter turbo with 217 hp. Of course, a host of diesel powertrains are available – there's a 118-hp 1.6-liter TDI, as well as a 2.0-liter TDI in 148-, 187-, and 236-hp variants. On the green front, Volkswagen will reportedly offer a 208-hp plug-in hybrid version with a 600-mile combined range, 31 of which can be accomplished solely on electric power.

Boring on a whole new level. I do like the front-end of it though, Passat has always looked good from the front.

Looks good - just can't afford anything new now days.
The current entry level B7 is R357,300 which is probably one of the reasons they're so scarce on our roads.
R9000 per month for a vehicle financed over 4 years at prime is a lot of money.

If you buy one new in this country, you have to be a little stupid. They are (along with the CC) VWSA's fastest depreciating car. 2014 DSG Demos with less than 10000km can be had for under R300k... Got a 2013 demo 1.8 TSI DSG with 16000km for around R250k a month ago. I couldn't even find a low mileage 2013 Jetta 1.4 TSI DSG for under R270k and it does not have the power, comfort, standard spec or full maintenance plan, that you get with the Passat.

That market segment in SA is a nightmare - we have simply discontinued the Legacy, even though it is a fantastic car - very small market and rapid depreciation, because of low demand - speak to someone who owns one, and they love it, as with the Passat and CC

My friend bought a CC, gave engine problems from day 1. On day 3 he dropped it off at the dealership, said "Take back your piece of *****" and bought a Merc that's he's very happy with :)
