2016 Hyundai Tucson (3rd Generation)

Some initial thoughts (pics to follow in later posts)

Got the 2.0 Ltr Nu Elite front wheel drive with the 6 speed auto
> Performance - It struggles slightly when pushed (highveld) [115kw, 196NM] BUT the caveat I have here is that my daily driver (car is my partners') has 140kw and 400NM. Performs adequately though for everyday driving and when pushed can get a bit loud / screamy
> Aesthetics - It is beautiful in the metal - stunning lines and they have really made an effort with its outward appearance - it looks menacing in a subtle way
> Space - Tons of space on the inside both passenger-wise and in the boot. Loads of head and shoulder room. Feels larger than the IX35 it replaces by quite a bit
> Infotainment - Managed to get one of the unicorn 8inch touch screen infotainment units - loads better than the 1996 one that you find in most of the RSA models currently out. Touch screen is bright, responsive and intuitive to use. Also came with Tom-Tom backed Navigation - still testing this out fully though. Sound system is also decent (coming from a 2011 Corolla)
> Fuel consumption - its only been a week so cant really comment and we are yet to take it on a long drive. Will reserve judgement on this one. Another caveat is that my daily driver gets me 4.5ltr/100km....
> Other aspects - just a note that the famed 7yr warranty is only on certain drivetrain components. When / If you buy one be wary to check out what is and is not covered - this was a surprise to us when we bought it
 
I see ma Uncle upgrade from 1st Gen Tuc to new MY2016 one. Lekker in white. Must check if he has the opt 8" system or the 2004 system.
 
Someone I know was meant to take delivery of one today. Will maybe check it out when I next see them. They seem to be selling quite well!
 
Oz market gets this "30" Special Edition model to celebrate the brands 30 yrs in Oz.

Paint job & wheels looks really good + modern infotainment system!

Quad exhausts are beyond extreme though.

So its been a month and a bit since we got the car and couldn't be happier. Have taken a number of trips with it and the drive is just so easy and comfortable on long legs. Once you get used to the power curve its a lovely drive - can be a bit sluggish if floored but not excessively so. Fuel consumption has hovered around the 8ltr/100km mark so we have been getting about 550km from a tank in PTA <-> JHB driving. Great car this
 
They really should stop with these custom satnav units and rather add a sim slot for use with Google Maps or add cellphone screen sharing tech.

Interestingly enough - the Nav on this model is loaded on a MicroSD card. In the US + Canada they have been able to load Android Auto + Apple Carplay using the same SD card. No word from Hyundai SA on when / if we will be getting these in RSA - i had to explain to them what they were in the first instance. This model does have Phonelink that can be used to mirror an Android phone (has to be connected via USB cable though)
 
Hyundai Automotive South Africa has added a pair of turbodiesel derivatives to its local Tucson range, expanding the line-up to seven variants.

The latest-generation Tucson was launched in March this year (read our full road test of the 1,6 T-GDi Elite DCT AWD from the May 2016 issue here), and Hyundai says it has sold an average of “more than 600 units per month” since then.

The first turbodiesel is powered by a new 1,7-litre, Euro 6 engine worth 85 kW and 280 N.m (the latter between 1 250 and 2 750 r/min). This front-wheel drive model features a six-speed manual gearbox and the Executive specification level. Claimed fuel consumption comes in at 6,8 L/100 km, while the service intervals are as long as 30 000 km.

The second oil-burner employs a 2,0-litre, Euro 2 mill making 131 kW and 400 N.m (this time between 1750 and 2 750 r/min). A six-speed automatic transmission delivers power to the front wheels, while the posher Elite trim comes standard.
