Solid review from HannesO of the base model Astra K "poverty spec"...

Rather good hey...impressed. Slight downer of 77kw motor vs 85kw...same 1L motor in Adam & Corsa.

So difference between the Sport and Sport Plus appears to be the intellilux lighting system which sets you back an extra 20k.

Really? It was launched the other day... CEO probably decided they could have done a lot better with the styling. As good as it might be, it just doesn't look great. A Golf is much more exciting and it's German too.
 
They test newer cars all the time, I am pretty sure that car also has some new fancy engine that is also getting tested. If I had to rate the three C-segment hatches that come from Germany I'd place the Golf last, behind the Focus and Astra. It's just too bland and boring.
 
Damn that red really looks good.

Was mildly disappointed the dealership had none on order.
 
Dealerships not having the K will probably be the biggest pitfall for GMSA. This is one of the best cars in the segment and all GMSA needs to succeed is dealers with cars to get the customers buying.

I think they underestimated the popularity. Sales person I was dealing with said the Astra Essentia sold out very quickly at their branch. What I was disappointed about was the fact that every piece of informative material they had, sports the red paint yet not a single red car available for order.
 
Now as much as I love Opel and the good work Delta has done back in the old days this is one of those times I have to voice my frustration against GMSA.

It comes down to this - the amount of times you get non-fanboys on your doorstep wanting to buy the product you are selling and you give them the run-round because - let's face it - you are an outpost depot for selling GM global products. Products such as those wearing a golden bowtie but all the buyers already know it is something that came from Korea.

Where does this leave me, a fanboy of real German Opel cars, well I can't actually say. Last time I dealt with a GMSA deal was 6 years ago. Things might change because my local GM shop has a car I can't live without, but lets see first.

To answer your question acidrain. I would go with vak-it. You wanted to buy GM and they shafted you. Go check out the options from VW and Toyota because quite clearly GMSA still has their heads to high up their own arses to take real, non-fanboi- customers seriously.

Honestly I love GM and their product but they need to understand success is not a given, no matter if you are trading as VW, GM, Mercedes, Audi or you name it.

Wait... Are you actually saying that VW is successful, because they have a good and well supported product?
