2016 Opel Astra K

Haha, already got.
Just don't like the look of it and its a glorified Vauxhall with a opel badge, a chicken coup.
But I am not going to argue over it. Each to his own
Actually it's the other way round, Vauxhalls are rebadged Opels. In North America you will find Opels with up market Buick badges, in South America they wear golden bowties, down under they are branded as Holden. But they are all magnificent machines originating from Rüsselsheim.

Even the base spec 1.0T Essentia is a looker

Dramatic yet tastefully restrained

It's good that you don't argue. Europe might be upset at their car of the year being called a chicken coup - that's a fowl jibe.... :)

And Roux has pointed out your other error..

Yes I admit I made an error there but still... No thanks. Not very good looking car at all.

The 2012/2013 looked a lot better

So finally had some time to take the car out for a long drive. Overall I have zero regrets with my decision... enjoyed every minute of the drive and man are corners fun, even without sport mode ( which I havent used yet ).

Most will appreciate that they have obviously changed the indicator light location ( previously it was in the bumper of the J Model which many criticised ). Like the new audi's and most other new high end cars the indicator and DRL have been combined.

The Opel eye is a nice feature and the lane keep assist is pretty responsive. In addition the pushback when drifting is not too obtrusive and just enough to let you know you are drifting and to correct it. The collision alert is a bit paranoid, going off even when you are in control. To properly test out this function though is not something I am willing to do for obvious reasons.

The intellilux lights are impressive. The auto high beams can be enabled and disabled. When enabled the lights will remain on high beam and only specific segments are turned off based on where other drivers are. This doesn't work for cyclists and pedestrians though. It only really has a use in very dark roads though. The standard lights are plenty for lit roads.

One thing I really like, and it's pretty small, but fuel economy is reported in km/l instead of l/100km.

Congress she's a beauty.

How is the optional 8" Intellilink system treating you?

Tbh its a bit bright. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere but haven't gotten to that manual yet. Still on the vehicle manual.

Whether its worth the extra above the standard unit I'm not sure yet as I haven't seen the specs of the standard unit but I would say no. The only addition that I know of is the navigation/gps and coming from Google Maps it's a bit meh. Carplay is a bit overrated since there is very limited apps support. For example asking siri for the weather, she will do it but it won't project to the main screen since whatever is used to display it on the phone is not supported by carplay.

Unless Astra K OPC makes an appearance soon my OPC days may come to an end.

Enjoy your K, lucky you!

Today I had a pretty relaxed ride in my H to Hermanus and back. Nothing to write about really, still with busted passenger door lock. However the cruise control and 4 speed auto did make for a relaxing ride.

One day when I grow up and the K drops in value on the used car market I will have one.

Theres this model listed on opels site. http://www.opel.co.za/vehicles/opel-range/cars/astra-opc/models/available-models.html

Not sure if that's last generation but if so I don't think they will be making the OPC anymore as Opel is releasing the Opel GT near the beginning of next year so I would assume this is replacing their OPC.
