Yep. You guys with GT and GT Lines are very lucky. Those things are going to be unicorns.

I am going to look into getting a RS Cup in the next 2years, 2nd hand of course, let someone else take the hit of brand new pricing. I love the design of these new Meganes.

You must get a lot of heads turning with it

Hehe yeah. The nice thing is there's no one else in my area driving one. Actually there is a white one that I've seen a couple of times. But they are rare.
 
it's sad that they have cut the GT-Line and GT but I think they know what they doing, realistically the average person is not going to spend over R350 000 for a Renault unless it's the RS version. By trim some specs and price they maybe feel they can sell more of these than before.

I wonder if the resale value will be better on the GT.

Might look at trading mine in for the RS some time next year after the usual teething issues that go with new cars are resolved.

The heads do turn though. I'm sure the RS will be even better at that :D

Given the history of the "GT" badge in SA, it will not improve. The Megane 2 GT sold in limited numbers in SA but did not hold any value over and above a N/A 2 liter at that time, same applies to the Megane 3 GT 5dr and Coupe that sold more units.

Regarding the pricing it seems the strategy of Renault SA is to gain traction in the rental market in the C segment.
They done it with the B segment (Clio 3) with success and currently with the Kwid and Sandero.

Concerning to note that the RS demo's will only be on strict allocation from Renault SA. (The 8 currently for media?) (This from my local dealer)
Not sure how many private dealerships will be able to take the knock to sell a demo car with 10k km on it.
Also puts a question on Renault SA stock availability of the RS.

Why did you go for the GT and not a 3 RS 265/275?

Was it more practical (5 vs 3 doors), fuel economy, looks or the actual drive and comfort? (will not mention EDC as real drivers prefer a stick:cool:)

I'm between a rock and a hard place with mind and heart. At my budget I have the choice between a 2015 Megane 275 Trophy or a 2017/18 Megane GT demo.
Car will not be used as a daily, but could be different in a year or five when my dci decide to die. With my daily commute and fuel prices I will have to keep the dci running at all costs.

In January when I took my old car for a service I looked at the Megane GT on the floor and sat inside it and just fell in love. So I was keen on the Megane 4 since the beginning. Then I almost bought it after that but they didn't have stock. I think it was in April or May. Then they had that huge special where we got the GT for about the same price as the GT-Line and I couldn't resist that.

Mine is used as a daily. So I wanted an auto. The "real driver" argument became irrelevant for me - especially in a car that you have to live with daily. I came from a Toyota 86 and I used that argument then - it's fine on the weekend but sucked ass on a daily commute.

In terms of the other factors - the drive and comfort level is superb, as in almost Audi A3-like. It looks better, is based on a newer platform, has a better interior, and comes with more standard kit than a Megane 3.

It's no brainer IMO. The Megane 3 RS might have more power going for it, but that's about it. Unless you're tracking it every day, that extra power is pointless. For everything else the Megane 4 is just a better car...
 
Thx guys, you speak to my mind. It just makes more sense to go the GT route. It is also such a beauty.
I will however still go and testdrive the trophy, maybe my heart will win then.
 
Have any of you who own a Megane tried out Android Auto? I installed it on my phone but don't see an option in the car. As far as I know it should be supported. Maybe just not South African models? Or my car needs an update.

Did lots of searching around and we can't get it, not on our Meganes at least. Maybe the recently revised range, not sure.

Check your system info. If the software branch is 2.x then you're out of luck. It's possible on 3.x and above...
 
saw a liquid yellow new megane RS yesterday with GP plates. I think the trophy model needs to be on my next to buy list :love:

The blue is nice but oh boy it scratches when you look funny at it.
It looks really good in white as well, looked a few times at a white one in our area and sometimes I wonder if it doesn't look better :)

Fell in love with the RS when he took me for a spin though, keeping my eye open for a demo :)

I had to settle for the white. Looks good but blue was my first choice.

I baby my cars so scratches wouldn't have been an issue.

Probably gonna trade in for an RS sometime next year anyway. The only thing putting me off is the 10k km service intervals...

This also bothered me. but it makes sense to have these intervals. Modern turbo cars, especially performance ones benefits from regular oil changes, as oil works much harder. My polo gti had oil issues and had a piston failure. very few "hot" turbo cars survive past 100k kms without big work... , Ill live with the 10k kms changes for now, and hope it pays off. i know of a few people with the clio turbo motor well over 100 000kms and the engine is bulletproof. (though that could be because its a nismo engine)
