2017/18 Transfers and Rumours

I'm just happy all this nonsense is eclipsing the Pogba...we will have a new unit of transfer spend soon.

"We're prepared to go as high as 0.33 Neymar."
"We won't accept anything less than 0.5 Mbappe."

We will hold the world ransom for One Momo Sissokho!

Faaaark. Neymar has agreed a deal with PSG. Total value (release clause, salary, etc) is worth £500mil! What the utter **** has happened to football?!

I don't know how true this is, but the fact is that Neymar is far more media-profitable than Messi or Saurez.

so i read something like Qatar group will pay neymar, neymar will pay barca and PSG sign for free
something to do with the fair play and tax

football business world is furked as well

Crazy money!!!

I dont think this will always happen...or I could be wrong

But Neymar seems like the mercenary type (or his father does). I would like to believe that others will do things with Football in mind and transfers will happen more within the norm

This is me hoping..

Seems to be a South American thing. Oscar, Tevez, Hulk with early moves to China for the money and Costa wanted to go also.

Yeah gone are the days of players who were, well, just happy to play because they loved the game so much. Notable example is the best player of my generation, Ronaldihno: played for major clubs and Brazil, won everything, and then in the twilight of his career carried on playing back home because he just loved doing it.

I thought the same of Sanchez until recently - another player to come from absolutely nothing (he washed cars to support his family). But he's turning out to be yet another mercenary

Neymar breakdown

06:55: Neymar is set to become the best-paid player in world footballer after being offered £650,000-a-week at Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG will pay his £199m release clause at Barcelona, dwarfing the current record transfer which stands at the £89m Manchester United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer.

:wtf: it's like winning the lotto every week.

Rivaldo did the same thing he played 4 seasons in Brazil up to the age of 41. To think Oscar is 25 and playing in China is ridiculous.

In the end, this is mainly a job for these players. So they'll go where the money's at. The premier league is what it is because of all the money being invested in it. It's all about that paper when you come right down to it. It'll unfortunately destroy itself in that chase for money if they aren't too careful. Yes, in the beginning we like to believe these players are in it for the dream of playing at clubs they followed as childhood dreams or something and enjoying the glory of performing in front of all those fans, but that's only to get see that big payday.

i hear what you're saying, and i'm not saying it is this, but there is a whole other psychological level at which relative poverty operates in some people.

Also, we are speaking about what motivates people and i think it is unfair making comparisons between a player one regards as "ideal' as in terms of playing for the love of the game, and expecting that everyone else is motivated exactly the same. In any industry there are people that do things for the love, others may do it for a range of other reasons. just because we love football and think it may be the ideal way for us to live to play football, others may hate playing football, it is a means to a different end. That may or may not make someone a 'mercenary'. It depends on our point of departure.

Pre 1993 to some extent in the EPL era, but also since the 1995 Rugby world cup and the professionalisation of playing rugby, there is a lot of money involved in those sports. What you call a professional (i.e. playing for money) i could call a mercenary (i.e. playing for money). It may detract from the way we view those players, but sometimes that is without criticising their skill or commitment to their craft.

Also, i think it was Michael Jordan or one of those very highly paid american sports stars were asked about his most recent x hundred million deal and how rich it would make him and his response was something about how it wasn't the person earning the x million rand salary that was rich, it is the person paying him the x million ... that is the person that is rich.

Yeah I hear you. I think the idea of loyalty, love for the club and the game is a fan construct. Players are merely selling a service, and have every right to go to the highest bidder.

I guess we have to ask ourselves where exactly will this end? Pogba's fee was ridiculous for what they actually got in the end - but £198m is a retarded amount of money, even for someone like Neymar. FFP was clearly some sort of pipe dream, as it was never been properly implemented or enforced. This transfer just proves it.

I also don't believe in the "If you were offered double your salary you would take it" Yes of course I would because if you doubled the average persons salary they would have a better quality of life. They would get out of debt quicker, upgrade or add another vehicle, travel more etc.

But with Neymar he's not exactly living on a budget, if you watch complex you would have seen he dropped 18k on sneakers.

have you been seeing the latest deals, when last did you see a good player move for below 30-40 mil

most deals are closer to the 50mil mark. And with more money being pumped in this will be the norm soon

Mbappe apparently is like 140-180mil, that is madness for a 18 year old

psychology exists because what is rational differs from person to person .. as much as it is a job, international football isn't a nine to five job .. and brazilian footballers have even more pressures... that is apart from pressure from agents, parents, i'm just saying that there is a lot of crazy in the world .. this is all just redistribution of wealth .. some one has 185m to spend on a transfer, and then more on wages ... money is just moving from one person to another ... ideally it gets spread more .. but hey, I'm sure neymar's brother's wife's cousins uncle really needs to rescue his restaurant from bankruptcy!

Footballing feelings aside with the Pogba comment - it may see ridiculous in terms of what you are getting - which is a footballer, not a house, or a car. But in financial sense, its seen as an asset = A Resource owned or controlled by a company as a result of a past event (transfer) and has future value (can be sold for more now) and probability of future benefit (Merchandise sales, trophies we win with him, sponsorship's which have already covered his costs)

Okay maybe football feelings were involved..:D

But when thinking of this, the 2 sides are the footballing and economic sides - some deals make sense, others just seem ridiculous and tend to upset the economic scale
