2017 Hyundai i30 (3rd Generation)

Very overpriced cars to buy brand new but since they generally don't keep their value they are absolute bargains second hand :)
 
Hyundai has released a teaser image of what it describes as the “high-performance” N concept RN30, which is set to be revealed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The Korea automaker says this “motorsport-inspired” racing concept is based on the new Hyundai i30, which will also be at the event in France.

Although the RN30 appears to share its silhouette with the new i30, it clearly adopts a lower, wider stance.

According to Hyundai, the concept features a “purposeful aerodynamic design” as well as “specialised high-performance technologies” that promise to deliver “thrilling high-speed driving”. Hopefully, the automaker will elaborate on these technologies once the concept has been unveiled.

When will that happen? Well, the Hyundai N Concept RN30 will be fully revealed on September 29 in Paris.

The RN30 certainly looks like it has the potential to be fast, but the proof is in the pudding as they say

Other details are yet to be confirmed, but a 2.0 litre turbocharged motor with a scramble boost function and roughly 200kW is the likely powerplant. Power will go to the front wheels, putting it in direct competition with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST and Peugeot 308 GTi. A six-speed manual or dual-clutch auto will handle cog-swapping duty.

An electronically controlled mechanical limited slip differential will bring torque vectoring to tame wheelspin and improve traction in corners, while multi-mode adaptive dampers are also likely for Hyundai’s first proper hot hatch.

^ I was actually speaking to a colleague the other day about how I would not mind trading in my i30 for a Duster. They seem very agricultural in comparison but they have such charm to them. The 1.5 DCi does seem like the one to get, but what put me off a bit was the NCAP ratings that were a bit on the low side for me.

I said previously that I would also probably look at a Mazda3 Hatch but they are also so damn pricey...but ja, all cars seem to be following this trend lately
 
They will seriously have to look at their pricing if they want to venture into the performance hatch market in SA. Most of overpriced Velosters are still on the showroom floor.

But Hyundai seems to think they are special more than other established manufacturers. Comparing like to like on features and performance with Ford, Mazda and Toyota their prices are ridiculous.

Don't get your hopes up...it's a Concept

Based on the New Generation Hyundai i30, the RN30 was born as a racing machine, developed in close collaboration with Hyundai Motorsport (HMSG), Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC) and Hyundai Motor's Performance Development & High Performance Vehicle Division. The striking concept is distinguished by its purposeful aerodynamic design and specialised high-performance technologies that deliver thrilling high-speed driving.

Hyundai N was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, bringing to life the company's philosophy for providing engaging and thrilling driving pleasure for its customers.

High-performance powertrain boosts driving pleasure

RN30's power is supplied by a high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, under development by Hyundai for N production models, upgraded with an enlarged turbo to increase thrust at full throttle. To manage the additional power, the engine blocks have been applied by forging parts, instead of casting parts, to increase their durability and resistance. As a result, the Hyundai RN30 is primed for performance, boasting 380 PS (279.5 kW) and a maximum torque of 46 kgf.m (451 Nm).

Managing the impressive levels of torque is a wet-type dual-clutch transmission (DCT), delivering quicker responses during gear shifting and direct coupling to provide dynamic acceleration. To manage the car's power while enabling precision driving at high speed, the RN30 is equipped with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system."
