Hyundai's i30 hatch to get a sharper look for 2020
Just as the i30 N performance hatch hits South African streets, a facelift of the regular version of the i30 (which is not sold here anymore) has been previewed by Hyundai’s European division ahead of the updated car’s Geneva Motor Show debut in early March.
The i30 hatchback is primarily aimed at Europe, where it takes on the Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra, and the 2020 model is set to receive a sharper look as it faces up to the ever-improving competition.
At this stage it’s not clear whether the i30 N will be facelifted with the rest of the range, but our guess is that the sharpened performance hatch will debut a little later than the ordinary models.

The hotted-up Hyundai i30 N has only JUST been launched in South Africa but the South Korean manufacturer already has a facelift ready to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
This will be the first time the i30 is offered as an N Line version and as you can see in the teaser images here, it looks a lot sharper and sportier. The redesigned front bumper features much larger air intakes and the LED daytime running lights are now integrated into the headlights.

In N Line trim, the i30 is granted a host of upgrades including a redesigned front bumper with a new grille mesh and LED headlamps, including V-shaped daytime running lights. The updates are said to lend the hatch a sharper, more aggressive appearance.

Hyundai is also updating its i30 N Line range. For the first time, the company's sporty-looking trim level will be available on the new Hyundai i30 Wagon, starting in summer 2020. The i30 N-inspired design features will continue to be available on the i30 hatchback and fastback models.
A modern exterior design
The new Hyundai i30's exterior design is both bold and sleek, giving it more emotional appeal. The front is characterised by a wider-looking, more modern stance. The wider grille features an accentuated 3D pattern that emphasises the agile look of the car.
New, slimmer headlamps with optional multifaceted reflector (MFR) LED technology and new V-shaped signature LED daytime running lights (DRLs) complete the renewed, modern front end design.
At the rear, the new i30 5-door is enhanced with a new bumper design, which was developed to improve aerodynamic performance. The LED rear combination lamps create a V-shape for a symmetrical effect between the front and the back.
The new i30 is now available with new, redesigned diamond-cut 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels that round off the side view of the new Hyundai i30.

Fresh colours also feature, while there is new interior tech including a 7in digital instrument cluster and larger 10.25in touchscreen, wireless phone charging and a variety of Hyundai's connected car functions. New safety kit includes Lane Following Assist, Rear Collision-Avoidance Assist and Leading vehicle Departure Alert extending the existing tally of safety kit.

Hyundai has fully revealed its refreshed i30 model range ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
The i30 has been given a makeover to give it a better chance against the Volkswagen Golf 8, which is currently being rolled out, and the South Korean contender comes to the party with a sharper design, new connectivity features and a 48-volt mild hybrid option.
While the first two Hyundai i30 generations were sold in South Africa, the local importer has skipped on the third-generation due to pricing pressures, although it did recently introduce the i30 N performance hatch to our market. It doesn’t look too likely that the regular i30 models will make a comeback any time soon, but never say never.
So what are we missing out on for now? The i30 Hatchback, Fastback and Wagon models all receive a more daring ‘wide mouth’ design upfront and the sporty ‘N Line’ trim grade (which is not to be confused with the actual N performance model) takes things further with a honeycomb grille and racy aprons front and rear.
Things have been thoroughly digitised inside, where buyers will find a new 18cm digital instrument cluster and 26cm touchscreen, which will also soon offer wireless phone mirroring. There’s also a new range of Connected Car Services linked to Hyundai’s Bluelink technology, which among other things enables real-time traffic and parking information, cloud-based voice recognition and remote control of some of the car’s functions.
