Maybe get an Xtrail thread in this mess of a subforum and ask there, I think the 2.5l should be the same as the one in the Nissan. The Koleos is new and you won't find many reviews.

So I test drove one today.
Typical Renault South Africa stupidity, they are out of stock. (remember Kadjar's problem anyone??)
I swear I dont know how they keep alive in this country.
So far my score is Haval 95%, Koleos 80% (not only cause the engine is rather lethargic but you will have to wait between 2 months to never for one amd i've been burnt by Renault like this before. They should have no excuse not to have sufficient stock other than bad management and decision making...) And Kia Sportage 90%.
I think i'm gonna get me a Haval this week...

The Nissan is relatively bland looking & has less fancy tech than the Koala (bear).
The drive in Koleos is not bad as long as you are very linear with your pedal.
The moment you put your foot flat the engine drone is LOUD, very LOUD. Other than that its driving manners are fine and it was very smooth. Infotainment is good too i liked it, and there is loads of space inside.
If RenaultSA wants this thing to have the market share it "should" have they should ensure they have adequate stock. Its a long-known Renault issue that they bring in X amount of something and sell it then suddenly change their mind, leaving consumers with super-de-valued products (old Koleos? Laguna?... )
My other car I do like is a Volvo V40 Cross-Country T4 but its quite different to the ones above. Very nice drive though.

This top-spec Koleos is priced at R479 900 and is sold with a 5-year/150 000 km warranty and a 5-year/90 000 km service plan.
Verdict
While some buyers may want more in terms of performance, we feel that the Koleos offers enough to keep the average family car buyer happy and although fuel economy is not its strength, the Koleos makes up for it by offering a practical and well-equipped cabin at a price that’s simply difficult to ignore. With that said, if fuel economy is a priority for you, then opting for a turbodiesel engine is your best bet, but sadly, the Koleos is only offered with this petrol engine, which means you will have to look elsewhere...
Affordability and value for money count for a lot these days and if you look at the pricing of popular models in this segment, such as the equivalent Volkswagen Tiguan for example, you can expect to pay over R100k more for a similarly specced derivative!
If you want bang-for-buck then we think the Koleos 2.5 Dynamique AWD deserves your attention, especially if you are looking for a spacious and generously-equipped all-rounder. There is a lot of car on offer here at an attractive price while also being backed by a comprehensive warranty.

Must say I loving my new Renault Koleos 2.5 Dynamique 4x4, its awesome ride. Spacious and a smooth ride.

I get approximately 9.0L on town driving but if I put it into ECO mode and drive with care, you can get down to about 8.5L . It awesome ride and ton of features for the price.

The Koleos badge is one you might not have expected to see again, but the SUV nameplate has just made a comeback in South Africa, this time affixed to the boot lid of a vehicle that appears to have more ingredients for success in the uber competitive SUV middle ground, where Rav4, Tiguan and Tucson rule the roost.
For starters, the new-generation Koleos is a far more attractive vehicle than its croissant-mimicking predecessor, featuring clean, taut lines that are likely to appeal to buyers in this segment.
VERDICT
Renault’s Koleos has evolved into a far more attractive package that in both size and spec terms offers a lot of vehicle for the money, regardless of which version you choose. It could do with a turbo engine and the ride could be plusher, but neither of these dynamic shortfalls are necessarily deal-breakers at the price point.
