To each his own.

When I was shopping around to replace my twelve year old Honda Jazz I eventually settled on the Swift. To me it was just so much nicer than the Up and all the other cars that I took for a spin.. It had guts and it always asked for more.

Recently I drove an Ignis. It really is such a good little car. It has heart and loves to be involved. It is streets above the Up.

So why am I telling you this?

Because in the August 2017 Car mag the Ignis is in a comparison test with the Up.
I fear that the Car mag will be biased because VW ad spend is so much more than Suzuki so the Up will win.

Let's see if I am wrong.

That's a massive downgrade in terms of boot space.

This is true.

But I'm more of a boob than derrière guy!;)

One can present endless arguments about the merits of each car but, to me, the Swift has more 'heart' and the driving dynamics are simply more appealing. I don't cart much junk around so the boot or rear passenger room was not very high on 'must-have' list.

The Swift was also a helluva cheaper and it was the only deal that didn't have 'on-the-road' fees. Honda, on the Jazz, and VW, on the Up, point blankly refused to waive these ridiculous charges - R3500 and R4000 respectively!!!!!!!!!!!

The local Suzuki dealer has an outstanding reputation for good backup service. I haven't had to bother them other than normal servicing but it is reassuring, that in the event that if it was required, I would be in capable hands.

Heh-heh-heh!

I wasn't wrong.
The Ignis was pipped by one point.

The August, as well as the July edition of car mag is so loaded with VW and Audi adverts and editorial that one could swear that it is a VW in house magazine.

Shows you the difference a particular dealership makes. It is all chronicled on the forum, but I'll never set foot in Mazda Fourways again and Honda Rivonia gave me R30k off on a new Jazz.
