Should I buy one?
The new RS4 Avant is a wonderfully competent car that boasts all the accelerative potency of a proper supercar as well as truly effortless long-distance qualities - all in a package that will accommodate up to five adults and a good deal of luggage behind the second seat row if need be.
In this respect, it’s a rather rare machine. One that can be scintillating to drive in Dynamic mode one minute and extraordinarily tame in Comfort mode the next.
This exceptional breadth of operation is very much at the root of its appeal, making it a car for just about every occasion. If you like the idea of the two-door RS5 Coupé and five-door RS5 Sportback but require even more versatility or simply seek something a little more out of the ordinary, it’s the perfect alternative. And at £64,625, the multi-faceted estate is cheaper than either of its siblings, too. What more could you want?

ABT upgrades Audi RS4 Avant to 390 kW and adds carbon aero package
Audi tuning specialist ABT Sportsline has revealed its latest upgrade package for the RS4 Avant, handing the hot wagon a bump in power and an aerodynamic kit.
The RS4’s twin-turbo 2,9-litre V6, which pushes out 331 kW and 600 N.m of torque as standard, has been fitted with an in-house developed ABT Power engine control unit and a special air-intake cover. This brings the power up to 375 kW and 660 N.m, which the tuner says results in a 0-100 km/h time of 3,9 seconds (some two-tenths quicker than standard).
Optionally, customers can request the ABT Power S upgrade for the RS4-S, which increases the peak outputs to 390 kW and 680 N.m. Here, top speed increases to 300 km/h.
The engine upgrade is joined by a stainless-steel exhaust system with four 102 mm carbon-fibre tailpipes. The wagon's handling is tweaked thanks to the fitment of a set of height-adjustable suspension springs and anti-roll bars on both axles.

Refreshed Audi RS4 Avant, RS5 twins: prices for South Africa announced
Audi South Africa has announced pricing for the refreshed RS4 Avant and RS5 twins ahead of the official market launch at the start of April 2021.
The RS4 Avant will start at R1 296 000, while the RS5 Coupé will kick off at R1 394 500 and the RS5 Sportback at R1 409 500. The Ingolstadt-based firm’s local arm says pre-deliveries to “select customers” have already commenced.
As a reminder, each of the three Audi Sport performance variants is powered by the company’s unchanged twin-turbo 2,9-litre V6 petrol engine, still delivering 331 kW and 600 N.m to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission (complete with new, larger aluminium shift paddles).
The result is the same for each of the three models: a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3,9 seconds and a top speed “of up to 280 km/h upon request”. The firm's RS sports suspension ships standard, while a sport differential at the rear axle is listed as optional.
