2018 Ford EcoSport (Facelift)

That 3 cylinder engine from the Figo produces 88Kw - the kerb weight of the Figo is 1047 Kg and the kerb weight of the Ecoboost 1.0 ( 92Kw)
Ecosport is 1327 Kg. How does the previous 1.5l 4 cylinder compare?

I see the previous 1.5l 4 cylinder produced 82Kw.
People viewed it as sluggish at the time.

Yeah, but if you rev it, she goes, no problem. My wife seems to have learnt this without me telling her - she moer'ed ours when she gave me a lift from Hi Q earlier this morning

From what I can tell this 1.5l 3 cylinder model only has a payload of 333kg. That's basically the same as the previous Jimny and less than a VW Up, Polo Vivo etc.The 1.0l Ecoboost has a payload of 388kg - still disappointing.

Pricing: Ford reveals new entry-level EcoSport

Ford has introduced a new entry-level EcoSport to its small SUV range.

The EcoSport 1,5 Ti-VCT is powered by the same, 1,5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine found in the updated Figo we tested in the October edition of CAR magazine. However, Ford says the unit in this model is “credited with 92 kW and 170 N.m of torque”. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual ‘box.

This base model is priced at R264 500, which is R3 000 less than the 1,5 TDCi Ambiente variant that previously served as an entry-point to the Blue Oval Brand’s EcoSport line-up. Like its diesel stablemate, this new EcoSport is offered in Ambiente guise.

Features such as Ford’s SYNC infotainment system (SYNC3 is reserved for higher-specced varaints), with Bluetooth connectivity and voice control, and a six speaker audio system. Electric windows fore and aft, heated side mirrors and air-conditioning are included, too.

Safety equipment fitted as standard are six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.

According to Ford, the EcoMode found in this car aids drivers to achieve optimal fuel economy.

The 1,5 Ti-VCT EcoSport Ambiente comes standard with a four-year/60 000km service plan, with 15 000km service intervals.

Somehow iol and carmag were fed incorrect info. Car mag has now corrected the pricing, which makes a lot more sense now:

"This base model is priced at R254 950, which is R12 550 less than the 1,5 TDCi Ambiente variant"

Ford Fiesta-based SUV set to replace Ecosport in 2020

Ford will reinvent its compact crossover as a model more closely aligned to the Fiesta; prototypes have begun testing

The new Ford Fiesta-based small SUV, which will replace the Ecosport in the firm’s range, has been spied testing for the first time.

The new compact crossover has been photographed sporting heavily disguised Fiesta-based bodywork but with a clear SUV-style raised ride height.

The as-yet-unnamed model, which could continue the Ecosport nameplate or take on a new identity more closely aligned to the Fiesta, will serve as a replacement for the ageing Ecosport as the smallest model in Ford’s SUV range.

Linking the styling of the new car closer to the Fiesta could help Ford increase its competitiveness in the fast-growing crossover market. The Fiesta was the best-selling car in Britain in 2018, while the Ecosport has long struggled against rivals such as the Nissan Juke and Seat Arona.

The car is set to share a platform - and likely an engine range, including the popular Ecoboost petrol powertrains - with the Fiesta. That means it's likely to be front-wheel-drive, although a four-wheel drive system could potentially be carried over from the current Ecosport.

It will sit alongside the Fiesta Active, a jacked-up version of the supermini.

Ford to replace EcoSport with new Fiesta-based ‘Puma’?

A fresh report out of the United Kingdom suggests Ford is hard at work developing a new Fiesta-based crossover that will ultimately replace the EcoSport.

According to Auto Express which also published spy shots of a new test mule – the Blue Oval brand will launch what will serve as a replacement for the EcoSport at some point in 2020, slotting the newcomer in just above the Fiesta Active.

Whether the EcoSport – originally designed for South American markets and still fairly popular here in South Africa after being facelifted in the second half of 2018 – will continue to be offered outside of Europe remains to be seen.

Automotive News Europe reports the new Fiesta-based crossover could wear the “Puma” badge, reviving a nameplate last used on a Europe-only compact coupé that went out of production in 2002. Late in 2018, the automaker filed with the World Intellectual Property Office to trademark the name, leading to speculation it could be used either on the upcoming “baby Bronco” or some other fresh crossover.

The new model is expected to offer more interior room and luggage space than the EcoSport, as well as a higher quality cabin. As Auto Express points out, it is also likely to ditch the EcoSport’s side-hinged tailgate. It will all but certainly be produced at Ford’s plant in Craiova, Romania.

Ford to launch production of Puma mini-SUV in Romania

21 Jan 2019

by Romania Insider

The new model to be produced by Ford’s Romanian plant in Craiova will be a small-sized sports utility vehicle (SUV) most likely named Puma.

The production will start this fall, upon a EUR 200 million investment already announced by the US company. The production of this new model will also require the company to hire 1,700 people locally in addition to the 4,400 employees it currently has there.

Ford currently produces EcoSport SUVs for the European market at its plant in Craiova. Puma will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will replace the EcoSport model, according to consultancy firm Inovev, writes Automotive News Europe. The company will also present a replacement for the compact SUV Kuga, Ford’s plan being to allocate more resources to the production of SUVs in Europe.

A week ago in mid-January, Ford announced it would cut thousands of jobs, leave unprofitable markets, and stop producing loss-making car models (like C-Max model) as part of a restructuring effort aimed at a 6% operating margin in Europe. Ford Europe, which currently has 53,000 employees, posted losses of EUR 245 million before interest and taxes in the third quarter.

RIP Ford EcoSport. And definitely not loved if looking at the comments.
