2019 Subaru Forester (Gen 5)

No, I havent driven that CVT, just me previous experience with CVT was not all that great.

You really should, it's not the piece of **** ones from Jatco that Nissan and others used that damaged the image of CVTs forever. Their CVT has been in development since 1989 and is well rounded these days.
 
Is there a good reason why Japanese manufacturers offer only the dull engine/gearbox combinations in their SA models?

My mistake then. I just thought per tradition that Subaru would have a decent petrol turbo in the range. But this problem is with most of these small crossovers - the Honda, Mazda and Toyota all have dull NA motors in SA for some reason. The Mazda could really do with a good engine as the chassis is great for what it is.
 
I want to get me a previous gen one. 2016 or so, diesel auto.

Just need to see about the finance.

Our 2016 Outback's DPF broke 3 times under warranty because we didn't "drive" it correctly. So, if you are doing urban driving and not a lot of long road drives, be warned.

I suspect this one of the reasons they stopped making diesel's as well, as this is wide-known issue with the DPF's.

None of diesel BMW's I've had, has ever had this issue. It would automatically clean the DPF irrespective of driving style.

2017 xc d lineartronic has been purchased, in pearl white :D

Still has a year of warranty left. Delivery on Saturday.

I'll be sure to take it for a proper drive regularly...

Considering all this, does the Forester successfully position itself as an appropriate alternative to the nation’s established crossovers? On paper, it certainly does, thanks to a standard maintenance plan as well as generous packaging and comprehensive level of standard specification. Furthermore, the larger displacement engine and more exciting Sport trim will improve its market appeal.

With the latest 2,5-litre boxer, the Forester’s performance shows a clear improvement; however, it’s still outpaced by crossovers with similar configurations. This by no means translates to it being a poor product. Putting its average performance aside, the Forester ticks all the major crossover boxes and is comfortable and capable on all surfaces. Its comprehensive safety features and standard equipment further bolster the package and promise a satisfactory ownership experience.

The competition for market share in this segment remains aggressive, yet, those dedicated to the Subaru brand will be joyfully satisfied with this example parked in their driveway. If anything, it is a product that has remained true to the brand’s core value of combining an adventurous persona with a dependable foundation.

Facelifted Subaru Forester revealed with edgy new face

The Subaru Forester has been given its mid-life nip and tuck, and the design changes are largely concentrated around the front end where we see a more edgy and expressive design that takes some inspiration from the Subaru Viziv Adrenalin Concept of 2019.

Although what we see here is the Japanese domestic market facelift, it’s likely that global models will see the same changes implemented later this year. In addition to the new headlight, grille and bumper treatment, the 2021 Subaru Forester facelift brings some new wheel designs to the party. Three new colours have been added, in the form of Cascade Green Silica, Autumn Green Metallic and Brilliant Bronze Metallic.

Beneath the skin, Subaru has upgraded the suspension system to help achieve a more comfortable ride, and the vehicle is also equipped with Subaru’s new-generation EyeSight, which is a suite of driver-assist safety features. Featuring a wider-angle stereo camera and improved software, the new EyeSight system is said to offer driving support in a wider range of scenarios than before, particularly at intersections. EyeSight is standard on all spec grades in Japan.
