BMW 2 Series Coupe production commences in Mexico
The first BMW 2 Series Coupe has rolled off the line in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. This makes it BMW’s first launch fully executed and put into operation in Mexico. The San Luis Potosi Plant is the newest within the company’s global production network.
From the design and construction of the BMW 2 Series Coupe, the San Luis Potosi plant was prepared to easily adapt to produce different models. In just two years since the plant began production, it has enhanced operations to include the manufacture of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and to expand distribution to cover the globe. With an additional investment of $125 million dollars (approximately R1,8 billion), the facilities were improved to incorporate this second vehicle into its production line.

Check Out The New BmMW M240I Kitted Out With M Performance Parts
BMW has not officially released the M Performance parts for the new BMW 2 Series range but a Bimmerpost user managed to snap some of the M240i variant fully kitted out at the BMW Welt.
At the front, you will find some carbon parts including the grille trim and the front spoiler. Carbon fibre side skirts are also present which end with some little winglets just ahead of the rear wheels. At the rear, there is a new boot lid spoiler as well as a faux diffuser.
Fancy the M3-style mirrors? You are in luck as those can be fitted too.
There are a few different wheel options. Two 20″ wheels; one two-tone and one black; and one 18″ option with a black finish. the car shown here features black wheels with the aftermarket brake system and red calipers. Black stripes are available for the flanks of the car and even the hood.

BMW 2 Series M Performance Parts revealed for motorsport fans
The BMW 2 Series Coupe has been detailed with a number of M Performance Parts for consumers that want to give their German sports compact car a motorsport-inspired look. The custom catalogue provides alterations to both the interior and exterior of the car.
As revealed by BMW Blog, the BMW 2 Series Coupe now benefits from a carbon fibre spoiler lip with winglets, kidney grille surrounds, side skirts, door mirror covers and a black and grey sticker pack applied to the lower end of the doors. At the rear, the BMW 2 Series shows off a spoiler and faux-diffuser. Customers can choose from three sets of wheels to create a further distinctive look. This includes a set of black 18-inch wheels or two 20-inch designs in two-tone or black.

The sharply-styled BMW 2 Series M Performance Parts catalogue has been confirmed, giving us a good look at what’s possible in terms of cosmetic and performance enhancement.
After some polarising design decisions in the form of the 4 Series and 2 Gran Coupe, the new 2 Series is a sweet return to form for BMW. This is pretty much what the Bavarian brand does best; handsome two-door muscular coupes.
In profile, the newcomer has traditional coupe proportions, with a long bonnet and stubby tail section fore and aft of the cab. There are a few fresh details, however, such as triangular elements in the bumpers, flush-fitting door handles, a subtle integrated spoiler on the boot lid, as well as 3D-effect LED tail-light clusters.

We’re not quite sold on the looks of the new BMW 2 Series Coupe, and these new M Performance parts aren’t exactly helping.
Get a look at what you can have. On the outside there’s some carbon grille trim and a front spoiler, as well as a new rear spoiler and a funny-looking fake diffuser. There are optional side skirts, M3-style carbon wing mirrors and three different wheel options.
M Performance will also paint some black stripes on your 2 Coupe, and they can fit fancy new puddle lights in the doors.
On the inside you can spec much carbon fibre and even more M Performance badging. There’s an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel and carbon/Alcantara seats too.

Didn't know that Mexico will be making the new Two? Here's a brightly coloured newsflashThere’s an all-new BMW 2 Series coupe, and opinions on its styling are best described as ‘mixed’. If you’re currently inhabiting the ‘unsure’ camp, then maybe the art car treatment can help sway you…
BMW has a storied history in art cars but this isn’t seen as one that’ll grace any galleries – instead its eight-colour design melds the flags of Germany and Mexico to denote the fact that examples of the latest 2 will be rolling out of a South American factory.
The design guzzled over six litres of paint, every drop of which was applied by hand to make it a seven-week process to jazz up this particular 2 Series. It's unclear exactly at which point certain BMW employees began cursing the fussiness of some areas of the latest coupe’s styling.
It goes without saying they picked the quickest 2er available at the moment – the 369bhp M240i in xDrive form.

BMW 2 Series Coupe gets art car detail to celebrate Mexican production
The BMW 2 Series Coupe has been given the honourable art car makeover to celebrate the Mexican plant’s relationship with the German manufacturer. It has also been done to commemorate the start of production for the new compact coupe.
The BMW 2 Series Coupe art car was designed by Potosi Bosco who has become renowned for creating plastic artwork, together with associates of the plant’s painting area, Luis Esquivel and David Fernandes. For this design, colour plays a fundamental role as it represents both Mexico and Germany. At the front, the Mexican and German flag are applied to reflect “power of both countries in terms of engineering, design and perfection”. The color orange was included to symbolise the marigold flower which is commonly used in the altars of the Day of the Dead.
A couple of human silhouettes symbolise the engine of the organisation, its collaborators who, after working shoulder to shoulder, celebrate this achievement of creating the first BMW vehicle born in Mexico for global markets.
Bosco says, “What I tried to do through this work was to translate the colors of Mexico and integrate it into the spirit of the car. This intervention is totally different from what I am used to doing. That is why it was very important to work together with Luis and Daniel, who supported me with their technical experience. I am very grateful to the BMW Group for trusting my ideas,”

Some vertical, some horizontal: BMW’s big grilles are here to stay - report
When it comes to car design, few topics are as widely debated as BMW’s modern styling language, and more particularly, the huge grilles that we’ve seen on some of its latest products, such as the BMW 4 Series and the iX electric crossover.
But will the controversy cause BMW to tone things down a little with its future models? That certainly doesn’t appear to be the case, according to recent statements made by BMW’s design boss. In an interview with BMW Blog, Adrian van Hooydonk hinted that the oversized kidney grilles would only become more prolific in future.
“We want to spread it out a little bit more: vertical kidneys on some cars, horizontal on others,” Van Hooydonk told the publication. “We want our customers to be able to recognize the BMW in the rearview mirror, not just as a BMW but also, after a while they know what BMW that is.”
This of course means that BMW will also be looking to differentiate its various models to a greater degree, in the process avoiding the “one sausage, different lengths” philosophy that its rival from Stuttgart has often been accused of.
“We want each of our products to have a stronger character of its own because each of our products has different competitors,” the design boss said.

The German automotive tuner has announced that the Manhart MH2 450 project has officially begun development. This package will be a conclusive enhancement for the upcoming BMW M240i xDrivewhich will elevate a number of the car’s characteristics.
Where power is concerned for the Manhart MH2 450 project, a MHtronik Powerbox plans to raise the B58 twin-scroll turbocharged straight-six mill’s standard output of 275 kW and 500 N.m of torque to 331 kW and 650 N.m. The chip will apparently also improve performance throughout the rev-band.

Manhart MH2 is a seriously ripped BMW 2 Series with 330kW
What would the new BMW 2 Series look like if it got pumped full of steroids? The new Manhart MH2 450 is here to answer that question with some impressive performance gains and a suitably aggressive design package.
BMW has yet to reveal the M2 version of the new 2 Series, but the MH2 is most certainly intending to be a substitute. Based on the new M240i xDrive, this Manhart creation produces an impressive 330kW and 650Nm, an increase of 45kW and 150Nm. But more importantly, it is 28kW and 100Nm brawnier than the current, and soon-to-be-discontinued M2 Competition.
The German tuner has not disclosed much in the way of detail as the MH2 has yet to officially go on sale, but the tuning program does include a MHtronik Powerbox. Also part of the deal is a new stainless steel exhaust system with valve control and customers can choose from various downpipe options.

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?
“A coupe that'll warm the hearts of traditionalists, but it's a little too closely aligned to the bigger 4 Series Coupe”
Here's a pure coupe that'll warm the heart of traditionalists. It's a very finessed thing to drive, yet superbly refined for daily use. Not a sports car but a sporting car.
Oh, and did we mention fast? The M240i xDrive is as powerful as the 2016 launch version of the M2.
And every 2 Series Coupe is cheaper by a useful margin than the equivalent if larger 4 Series Coupe. Given the 2 Series probably met its engineers' targets so closely, it seems a bit grumpy to be criticising it. But here goes.
We're struggling to see why, having gone to the trouble of building a car that looks so different from the 4 Series, they didn't make one that feels different. Sure, they were using the same mechanicals, but they could still have made more separation through the chassis tuning.
We wanted the 2 Series to feel more lithe and sharp, to give more feedback – even at the expense of long-distance comfort. The 2 Series looks like a little tearaway, but doesn't feel like that.
