2TB Anytime data

Are there any risks in running the "unrestricted" APN permanently?

If your firewall is misconfigured, then yes, otherwise its the same as having a DSL or fibre connection with a public IP.

One of the disadvantages of the unrestricted APN is that every time you restart your router you randomly get given either a CPT, JHB or DUR IP which can cause increased latency if you are assigned an IP outside of your region.

The router does the firewall configuration automatically, so hopefully that's configured correctly. Will test with the Unrestricted APN and see how it goes. I'd be happy with constant NAT 2.

Had a strange issue on Monday night, I was playing Destiny 2 and my connection just died. Red light on the modem showing no connection. Reboot fixed it and after checking I received the roaming "Your connection has been paused SMS..."

Have disabled roaming on the SIM itself now so will check if it happens again. It was the first time the connection went completely dead due to this.

Only other issue is that our Telkom exhange seems to go down every other Sunday for a couple of hours. Both ADSL and LTE goes down. So far it's happened twice since I got the package last month. Aside from that I'm very happy with the service.

What kind of speeds you getting ?

Seems to be in the 50-70 Mbps (mostly 60) down and 7-15 (mostly 8) Mbps up range. Speeds are not nearly as high as other people get, but it's more than enough for my needs at the moment. Our tower seems to max out at 75 Mbps, so it's a tower infrastructure/band limitation.

Mine also dies when the loadshedding hits. Reboot your router. Sometimes I have to turn off the wifi on my phone and turn it back on before it picks up the wifi again.

always dies for 5 min. Just try restarting your router

It was the first thing I tried. Connection takes a couple of hours to get back up. Just returned to working order after 4 hours. Normally it's up immediately after loadshedding.

hope its temporary all my connections but telkom lte die with LS

About an hour and half into load shedding, almost like clockwork, the router gets one of these SMSs

Internet access paused. Either your data bundle is depleted or you're not in Telkom's coverage and using a Telkom only bundle. Dial *180# or open your browser.

and then the red light on the modem comes on and I can't access the internet. I've got a Telkom sim in my phone which happily still runs at 4G+.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

Anyone interested in selling me there 1GB daily transfer? Need 3 Okes. Loadshedding wipes out everything but Telkom stays up. DM me if your keen.

I'd been enjoying low ping to Singapore for quite a while, which has been great for some gaming where there are no ZA servers. 130-140ms which is considerably better than the usual 180-190 to EU. Last night I noticed it start to dip and tonight is all over the show.

A ping to 45.32.100.168 as an example would be in the mentioned 130ms-140ms range. Today, it's at 270ms-280ms (with some sporadic spikes to 600ms) and it appears a route via China Telecom has dropped out of play. Portions of Singapore, I can still get 170-180ms but it's still quite a step backward.

EU (Germany specifically) is also not great, a while ago, it went from 180ish to now 210 on average (tonight 230). I know when I started with the 2TB package, EU wasn't too great but it suddenly improved then started going south again a few weeks back, didn't bother me because of the fantastic times to Singapore.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Hi Guys,

I have been using this deal for about a month now.

What i have noticed is that during a speedtest, the speed maxes out at about 7mbps for a few seconds then starts climbing to around 70mbps.

When my wife is streaming (low quality), my latency on CSGO SA servers is very spikey. Is there any way to sort the issue out? Never had the same issue with any previous LTE solutions that i had.

A fancy firewall with good QOS can help a bit, otherwise get fibre :)

What router are you using? On a Huawei here and I locked to FDD (1800+2100 with 1800 for upload with the Huawei band tool) to avoid the same winding up you mention, except I did it for upload benefits. It should keep 4G+ permanently active too. Downloads will start at 25mbps and progress upward from there as aggregation does its thing.
