Considering the massive number of "work from home" users from Telkom on Facebook it is safe to say I am not alone in this situation. But if a thousand+ complaints cannot show Telkom that a very serious problem exist i doubt that anything will get fixed.

For telmom there is no urgency, they don't care if we can lose our jobs, they don't care if we pay them money for service they don't provide.

Why don't they care?

Because they know that the we as clients can't do anything about it. They have the money to spend on court cases we do not. The Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has not done anything at all, all these years. NOT ONE THING.

So it is safe to say they can do whatever they want. The only way to change this is if South Africans brings a class action against ICASA for not doing their job and once that is successful then only will things start to change. But the people will have to put in the time to really communicate a step by step procedure and we will need legal companies to really drive it home. But because it is such a massive under taking and because it is hard to communicate to everyone in their areas this also cannot happen. So essentially all our providers can bring out "dead on arrival" products grab as much money as they want because no one can stop them.
ISPS, like to use this term... Check Coverage and this little but yet so annoying word.. Subject to BEST EFFORT SERVICE... And then they wont give SHIZ cause they still deduct your money, and they get what they want, and you do not get what you pay for. As long as they have what they need then your say, has no value what so ever.

“Best efforts” could mean: spending money disproportionate to the importance of performing the obligation; or. a greater effort than “reasonable efforts” in terms of doing what is within the party's power to accomplish the task regardless of the financial obligations this may entail.

So how one can argue this is by taking the average connection speed of other networks in the area that claim the same service. For example they claim an area is covered for LTE. That means LTE infrastructure must be available to the client. Secondly it comes down to averages. For example IF Vodacom Telkom and Cell C share a tower it means their baseline should be more or less the same if all of them claim to support LTE.

"please note this is not legal advice" -- > So legally one could argue that their best effort should be equal to the average of other ISPs using the same infrastructure. Otherwise "best effort" could be putting a sticker on a bus stop. Thus the court needs to establish a baseline then argue if that baseline is reasonable. THEN one can argue if best effort is made or not. But who is going to pay a lawyer to do all this? ... exactly no one.

Why? Because it is less expensive to just move to another Network "depending on your contract and IF you can cancel it or not" Also it can take years upon years and who has the money to keep a lawyer on retainer for the next 10 years. Simple fact is Telkom can keep this in court longer then what the customer can afford it.

In the end it doesn't matter because no one is going to spend million in court arguing LTE speeds. And is the reason why they get away with it.

In short we need a class action to push ICASA to take create laws, customer protection acts and regulation so that the court has a criteria to work from. Then customers can use ICASA to get ISPs to provide the services they are literally contractually suppose to provide.

Don't get me wrong the legal system exist but getting anything done will take at least 30 to 50 years and no one has that type of time or money.

Can report via this link as well, or so it seems.

@Happy Sloth Bro what modem are you using again? Have you tried running the sim from your phone? What phone are you using? See if you experience and difference in speed

Guys pls this lte issue is recent. I have been on the telkom lte network for years almost 6 years. This is recent. Last 3 weeks recent

Issue began on Thursday, the 14th of April 2022 according to my experience and a bunch of comments from people across the country on downdetector.co.za

It's gotten progressively worse over this period.

My suggestion is to call 081180 and tell them you went through the troubleshooting steps on the website and the resolution was to log a case. Make sure you use the words, "I want to log a case" otherwise they get confused and you end up with no reference number. The more cases they have the better the chance of them giving it the attention is deserves. It seems to be a subset of their LTE customer base that's experiencing these slow speeds.

Spot on thats the date I noticed it too on my old "uncapped" package.

Guys we cannot have the bystander effect happening here log a call. We had something similar years ago but it was resolved within the month then perfect sailing for 5+ years

I use a Huawei B618s-22d and I use a Samsung core A03. I took the router around the flat with a extension cable and honestly didn't do much... In my phone basically the same

Lol this yours? the LTE Telkom? Which area?
It is mine, yes. In hindsight, this wasn't a great joke. The MyBB Speedtest app is broken on iOS and has been for a long time, it reports the incorrect provider. (Secondary sim is MTN, primary is Telkom prepaid) So what you're seeing here is MTN 5G.

When I posted it, I thought it would be funny, but actually it's not.

This ^ is why I don't actually take their "This is the top mobile speeds" or "This provider has the best average speed" articles seriously :)

With external antenna

92.7 download with B618 65D and the old uncapped LTE (300Gb FUP).

And back to 10-15mbps downloads? Yet signal excellent

I think it is fair to say that no LTE connection will ever be stable. We are lucky to get a service and anything more then that is a bonus. But this is what we get when a customer has a choice of only 4 providers... or 5 but I don't really count Rain because no one is happy with them their complaints on the net is scary...

Connection peaking at 240Mbps - which I've not seen before.
I wasn't fast enough to catch the 240 Mbps screenshot.

For those having issues, I suggest you log a case with Telkom and keep following up. Last year when I had the 1 tb deal I experienced issues with the tower I connect to. There was instability and when it rained the cell went offline totally. I set up Smokeping and was able to track the instability, and I sent this to Telkom and my case got esculated. About two weeks into it, I had a technician at my house.
