30GB Local only alternative

mmm anybody test it out yet? as far as i know IS news server is a tad slow or am i wrong?

Oh sorry i just saw axxess have there own news servers, wonder what the speed is like.

With these accounts you can get all international if you don't disconnect. Its been like this for years!

IS is pretty decent and for me give the best local latency cause they peer with all ISP's

I'm most definitely gonna try this instead of paying R70 for 10GB IS Local only / R131 for 30GB - both at OpenWeb.

This in combination with the free Cybersmart 1GB cap would get me quite far :D

Unfortunately these rates are only valid till 31st March :(

OK, so I've applied for the account at 00:15 this morning and only got the E-mails with the details at like 16:00 the afternoon.

I did a password reset, and it got delayed by 16 hours as well!

So ja, this is just a heads-up for you guys...
 
I just got amazing support from Axxess just after someone spotted my post! :D
So now everything is up and working like it should.

+100 to Axxess support.
 
Can one purchase any of the Local Plus accounts (10+1GB, 30+2GB, 30+3GB) via an Engen or a Pick 'n Pay voucher?

Ain't you lucky! I emailed Axxess about why I get 400KB/s NNTP (news groups) they asked for a speed test. I asked Huh? what has that got to do with NNTP? No reply. I purchased a second Afrihost account capped 1 Gig for R29 and one gets another Gig free. I have an Afrihost account uncapped which is throttled to hell and gone permanently. I tried NNTP now and got 800KB/s But that doesn't help you because it is a debit order account or off ones CC :-)

yeah. great service from Axxess. I applied for 30gb local just before the special was announced and the debit orders already went through. Got a call from Axxess and they credited my account.
Great stuff guys.
 
My international access stopped after like 3GB, and I bought the 2+28GB local only account.

It probably stopped due to my ADSL line that was reset/worked on due to the phone not working.

I have to add that the IS account is quite nice to have for gaming, because you don't have to worry about local peering issues :)
The only thing that I currently have against the IS account is the latency that is quite a bit higher than what I have with my WebAfrica account. Like to www.take2.co.za I get ~30ms with WebAfrica and about ~65ms with IS.

The news server downloads from the local IS news servers are flying at 39-40kB/s flat, except for during office hours of course - then you can't even connect. But hey, I really don't mind if the ISP's don't allow NZB downloads during office hours, because its not important traffic in the 1st place.

I think this is only for buyers who apply after 31st March. Don't think the accounts bought before will change pricing...I hope :p

I moved and Telkom is only going to install the new line 15th March :( If I don't have the line by then, I'm reserving my R99 :D
