384 Kbps to 1 Mbps Upgrades

You can PM MWEBguy for a trial account if you're not an existing MWEB customer.

Yeah, but what's the point? I'll be signing up with them anyway :D

Reading throught the WebAfrica thread doesn't make for happy reading. The friends of mine that have MWeb uncapped, are very happy with their experience so I've kinda made up my mind already.

Thanks though :)

I've been upgraded!! :D

Now I need a nice 1Mbps Uncapped account?

Mweb? or Webafrica? any others?

I need to be able to pay by debit order.

I'm on WebAfrica, checked my line this morning, and was upped to 1mb, i logged into my web africa profile and upgraded my "isp" speed to 1mb for R10 extra (this happened instantly). I'm currently paying R100 for the data line (They are managing my line) and R189 for 1mb account. This excludes telkoms compulsory voice line. Not bad at all.

I'd rather pay R10 more for my data and get an account from Mweb that doesn't punish me for using it, a la rolling windows.

Newlands, Johannesburg - 011 534 xxxx upgraded to 1024 a couple of hours ago.

Checked the WA site... If you were to get a 1 Mbps line with them right now it's R150... I'm currently paying R100(same as you) for the 384 kbps. Seeing as how you upgraded, looks like they're is no additional R50 cost. This is the good news I've been waiting for all day. :)

I called 10210, went through the menu and they told me they will refresh my ports, I had to turn of my router(which I did) but afterwards my line was still syncing at 384 kbps... speed test also shows:

Download Speed: 205 kbps (25.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 67 kbps (8.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 149 ms

Any advice?

Probably to shortcut the process. Telkom have a schedule to move over the 384 users to 1024 that started last night. It will be a phased approach, not a big bang switch over. By phoning you speed up your upgrade.

At the risk of the agent not checking whether your line can do 1Mbps, which has been done for the phased/batched approach. According to the SAIX notification, the phased approach will run until Sunday.

Please don't complain about call centres, and agents not know anything about this, as this wasn't communicated as the process customers should follow, and I don't think call centres have prepared specifically for this.

Same here.

Everyone must take note that this only works if your line / exchange has indeed been upgraded. Doing this does not upgrade your line, it only shortens the period that you have to wait in order to use your upgraded line.

I followed the advice of this thread, and is now running at 1Mbps! Woop Woop!

That's what I'm talking about!

Just one 1min phone-call and no restart required :)

Called them. The assistant seemed to know exactly what I was asking for. Switched my router off and on again, as per her instruction. Probably took about 3 minutes.

Now, when i check my router settings, it's still showing downstream of 383000 but I'm guessing that's because I'm still on my WebAfrica 384 home uncapped. Will be changing to the new package later.

Called them whilst at work today and just got home to see that I am finally on 1Mbps. I am so happy right now. Good riddance to 384. And yes, for once thank you Telkom.

:D

Hmmmm... very nice news.

My linespeed also says 1Mbs on the Telkom webpage... router says 379, so I phoned Telkom and they said to phone during business hours on a weekday. So will do that tomorrow.

I also tried phoning Cybersmart... my ADSL line is still with them (I know I know) and their * uhm * efficient helpdesk minion stated that "Telkom will only do the line upgrades at the end of October"... and that I should not even bother phoning until then.

/sighs

I also informed CS (capped account) that my line was upgraded by Telkom is now syncing at 1024 ......
They 'sowaar' told me I will now be paying the 1024 rate as Telkom will be charging them more to supply me with 1024
The more I tell them the upgrade was FREE & that 384 is falling away & no-one can re-apply for that speed, the more they argue ....
:wtf: WTF is it with these people ???
... waiting on their reply after my last mail that included links to all the news articles about the upgrades
