384 Kbps to 1 Mbps Upgrades

Phoned twice this morning. Both times I got through to less than helpful Telkom ladies. Was told it is a 6 weeks process and that I have to wait... Aai tog! Will try again later.

Keep trying. Eventually you will speak to the right person and it will be done in less than a minute.
 
I've gone through to http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/ to see if my line was upgraded to 1mbps and the site showed that it was. So I contacted mweb and asked them to do a port recreate or profile recreate to change me over to the 1mbps speed. Both times the operator tells me now it still shows 384kbps and I have to wait until the end of October 2012. (my line rental and adsl account are both with mweb).

If someone knows of a person they spoke to at mweb who sorted them out please tell me their name... i am willing to devote my time to stalk him/her to get my line upgraded to 1mbps :D ... I dont have the patience to try a third time in hope I get lucky.... rather have a sure thing lol.

Rather call Telkom. My line is managed by AH but Telkom did the re-set no questions.

Nope. They didn't even mention it. I was worried that they would refer me back to AH. If they do just keep calling. Eventually someone does it without much fuss and bother.

upgraded automatically at the beginning of October.
However max dl speed peaks at 80 KB/s . Should this not be higher? I appreciate the faster speed but wondered if this is what the norm is after two weeks? Speedtest gives some ridiculous speed of 21 kb/s dl. I seen higher posted?

I get about 105+- on my Mweb uncapped account. Yours could be a little bit higher, what are your line stats like?
 
Has anybody been experienced unstable connection since the upgrade from 384Kbps to 1Mbps? My router often disconnects and reconnects with strange synch speeds....sometimes 700 and something....sometimes 500 and something etc etc. I find that if I just keep on resetting it, it goes back to 1024Kbps.

Anybody else experiencing this problem??

Are you sure? The results you are getting does not look like a 1mbps line at all but rather closer to a 384kbps one. Log into your modem and check at what speed you are syncing. A 1mbps line would get results closer to 0.87 down and 0.39 up.

Hi Id13 - most def syncing @ 1Mbps - checked/confirmed on router and on telkom adsl checker with exchange 4Mb capable
I think i will give Mweb a shout. The speedtest was probably bcos mweb international was experiecing hiccups very recently. whilst speedtest gave .3x Mbps, i actually dl at higher speeds - just peaking @ 80 KB/s and not the expected +/- 110Kb/s i thought i'd get (which is around 30-40% more.)

Hi HoodRich - How old is your router? Check firmware version - upgrade if necessary. Just ensure settings are backuped somewhere (screenshot or whatever). Might be exchange. Check that with telkom.
Mine has no hassles so far in terms of line connectivity stability.

Thanks for the advice. My router is a Dlink 2540U. I'm not sure how old the model is, but I have mine for +- 3 years now. I'm pretty sure its running the latest firmware....will double-check.

Just to let you know though, I have a few friends who are experiencing symptoms similar to my issues.

Will try to update the firmware anyway - thanks!

Howzit - I did find a new firmware for my router....just released in July 2012. I backed up my config, updated the firmware, did a hard reset and finally loaded my config. Its currently synched at full speed (1 Mbps down, 512Mbps up)

Lets see how stable things are from here on. Will keep you posted.

ok whell ive rebooted alot of times and its finally syncing at 1024kbps but when i do a speedtest it jumps hectically between 50 and 20 so at end of dl test i get like 26 and uplink is 40 something. i tested a lot of times on different servers.

any suggestions?

Well, that didnt seem to have worked. Just checked my line speed this morning...Its 544 down, 512 up. This is so annoying.

I think im going to phone my ISP to find out if they still got me on 384 uncapped instead of 1meg, my downloads is also spiking between 50kbps and 60kbps atm. i havent got time to test the upload speed yet.

have you phoned your ISP to ask if your still on 384? If you have got uncapped
