Hi.

I've just recently upgraded to a 384k upcapped Axxess line, but I'm getting throttled to death after only doing about 5gb. Needless to say, I'm thinking of changing my account.

Are there any ISPs that only throttle P2P, RS, Newsgroups etc? I'm not a heavy downloader (15gb a month, if that) and I'm not really concerned about torrent speeds and whatnot. I just want my HTTP (excluding download sites) to keep its speed up. I also do a bit of gaming so I want a good latency (<100ms) on local servers.

Recommendations?

I'm leaning towards MWEB because it seems like they throttle their gaming and browsing far less.

Oh, and I can't afford an unshaped account, so don't recommend OpenWeb Gold. My budget is in the <R250 region.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Openweb have an uncapped Standard account. Not the Lite one. Get that.

OpenWeb :) Without a doubt :D

Two months ago my download speed went to pieces and I emailed OW and asked if there was something wrong. They informed me that I had hit the 20% top users bracket (yes, on STD uncapped). I was rather miffed that they do not advertise this on the website. I do know that there are one or two other ISP's that do mention it though.

from openweb thread, std does get throttled even is not mentioned 2 pages back in thread

O.o'

Lame :/

Well, even though OP said gold was out of his price range, I have to say it's well worth it :o

Thanks for the replies. Just to reiterate, I really can't go over budget on this.

So if OpenWeb standard still gets throttled what are the differences between that and the Lite account? Does the the STD one have a higher throttling threshold? Also, how does MWEB shape their bandwidth? Do they leave HTTP untouched?

None of the ISPs actually specifiy how their accounts work, it's misleading.

not sure diffrence between the lite and std, the std does support more backbone , LITE is IS only.

mweb have troubles with the stuff so atm http tad slower, use to be full speed :(
( trying to sort it out)
